Well marked path, there are many informationnal pannels along the way. The complete walks has you walking in residential areas of little interest. I'd recommende walking only the DOC maintained area. Great view of the seal colony and the mountain range. The eastern side is...More

Beautiful walk in Kaikoura. Not too difficult. We had a lovely sunny day. We had the option to walk along the top of the trail and return along the beach. Numerous seals and birds.

Don’t miss this while in Kaikoura. We literally had to walk around a sun bathing seal as we enjoyed the walk!

We parked at the seal colony car park at the end of the esplanade. The day started of with a sea mist and unfortunately it did not lift all day. The cliff path had plenty of viewpoints along the route and there were benches to...More

We enjoyed a good few hours doing this walk. Spectacular scenery and awesome views. Plenty of seals and bird life. Varied terrain, a few up and down hills but mostly easy to moderate walking. Recommend this walk.

Seals. And more seals. Red beaked seagulls nesting. AMAZING views. We had a leisurely stroll and kept exclaiming over the beauty. In one moment we could see seals on the ocean rocks, green hills, brilliant blue water, and snow capped peaks. What an extraordinary combination....More

Yes there are seals. And lots of rocks. And it’s slippery in the rain. Cool to see. Moderate difficulty.

A beautiful hike in Kaikoura. We spent a few hours doing this walk, seeing seals, the Southern Alps, a Pa on the hillside. I am so glad we decided to do this. So worth the two hours it took to do this trail.

My wife and I did the loop walk from the town to the South Bay and then back to the esplanade and we took a little more than three hours to do it. It was simply amazing... gorgeous beaches, seals everywhere, flowers... words really can't...More

Not sure about Ohau walkway, but quite possible after the earthquake. The place I started on the walkway was at the Port Kean viewpoint (there's a car park near there to drive up to so you can start the walk). I heard the... More
