This is not the first pier to be built on this spot: the first was in the mid-1860s to take traffic and cargo to/from Brisbane on coastal steamers, necessitating a pier long enough to allow safe berthage in the relatively shallow waters of Hervey Bay. The pier at its longest was 1100 metres but is now a relative "minnow" at 880 metres. It is built entirely of wood, on piers similar to the one you see at Huntington Beach in California [remember the 60s hit "Under the Boardwalk"?]. Parking along the Esplanade at its southernmost point is easy, and it's a free exercise to walk the length of the pier above the pristine waters of Hervey Bay. Great exercise and even better views!…

This is a must do when visiting Harvey bay, easy stroll along the pier , see fishermen , and plenty of marine life.

This pier is really long ! It is about 1km . Got some great photos from the end of the pier and also under the pier . Good to watch the locals doing some fishing
