A pleasant undemanding walk, do your homework first as there is little signage, also if you're afraid of cows beware as they are often on the trail.

We had a few hours at the end of the day and this looked interesting. We parked then started walking towards the ocean. We passed the avacado orchard, went through a few gates and got to the ocean. We were the only ones there. It was hard to find our way back, we were lost for a while. Hopped a few fences to get back on the route. Still worth doing, great ocean views.

I have lived in Auckland my whole life and have walked a good amount of tracks/areas yet I had no idea this place existed and no idea about the turmoil still going on.
As you drive into the area there are countless signs "now entering stolen land", "don't build over our ancestors graves" etc that was quite a shock but as you get deeper you start to realise that the inhabitants simply want this lovely area left alone, left to its natural beauty and you are most welcome to wander is multiple tracks.
I am desperate to go back and photograph the protest signs and area. It's a gorgeous site that transports you out of city life in the most amazing way.
Loads of parking too

Whoever said Auckland is a concrete jungle couldn't be more wrong. Thoroughly enjoyed the easy walk through the stonefields with beautiful views.

There are quite a few car parks and there are quite a few paths around the park. Worth looking at the crater and avocado orchard. Although some paths just seem to disappear so take a map to help. Paths to the north are best heading towards Mangere Mountain. So close to the airport so a good place to visit if you have time to spare. Although you will need a car.
