A very interesting place to visit. It's understandable why this is an important place for the Norwegians. Pros: impressive and gripping. Cons: there's very little information except the little map you can buy in the cafe. One can book a guided tour, which we didn't, but I'm sure this would add even more to the experience. But if you have... More

A secluded fortress, originally built to protect Norway against the Swedes around 1900-1995 became a local stronghold in April 1940. You can walk around in bunkers and trenches, visit the museum and cafeteria. Even the road up to the fortress is spectacular..

I rode my bike up here on a nice sunny day and it was wonderful. The fortress and its history is very interesting.

I would have paid to enter this old fort / battle heritage site. While you have to understand Norwegian to read the history and posted signs, it is worth the drive and a great spot for families who like to explore. My 6 year old wanted to explore every inch of the tunnel system, while my 3 year was slightly... More

The history of the place is very interesting, but for the kids too young for it the place offers a lot more. A walk to the Svartåsen battery is recommended.

I wisited Hegra Festning at summer with my boyfriend, on our own. We found it very interesting. The views there are really amazing. It's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in war history. I will go back for a guided tour one day! I can recommend it for both kids and adults. Not easily accessible for wheelchair users.

My wife and I visited Hegra Festning on our own, and found it very interesting. The place is well maintained and the views are amazing. It must have been quite a job to make all the caves in the rock a hundred years ago. It's strange to think that the fortress was built to protect against attacks from the Swedes,... More

I visited Hegra Festning off season, so I did not get a guided tour. However, knowing a bit about the history, I found it quite intresting to just to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of the place. But I guess a guided tour inside the fortress would be amazing.
