We drove out from Alice Springs and spent two nights at Glen Helen Gorge 'Resort'. Incredibly basic accommodation but really lovely people and plentiful food and drinks. And the location? Exceptional. Glen Helen Gorge was stunning - so too Ormiston Gorge, Big Ellery Hole, Standley Chasm, Ochre Pits. They are all absolute MUST visit locations. So beautiful, peaceful and mind... More

Ormiston Gorge is set in the Macdonnel mountains about 132KM or 1 ½ hours from Alice. The Gorge rock pool is really a large pond surrounded by coarse sand with the red rough mountain towering above, very beautiful and good for photos. We went mid-February which is the height of Summer with 40C heat so I did swim but felt... More

Wow - we had one amazing day driving from town out to Glen Helen (140klm) first thing in the morning then weaving our way back to town in and out of all of the gorges, chasms and water holes - we managed to do around 6 in one day doing 30 - 40 min walks at each and we were... More

This string of gorges and waterholes is truly amazing. We had the most wonderful time here. We went to Simpson's Gap, Standley Chasm, Serpentine Gorge, Ormiston Gorge for lunch and Glen Helen Gorge. They were all extraordinary. I wish we had time for more. If I had one day in Alice Springs, I would head out here and see as... More

West Mac Donnell Ranges for the day - we start off with a walk to Simpson's Gap, then it's on to Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and finally Standley Chasm. They were all excellent but the distances between places here are immense. A real eye opener - I have never really heard of the west macs with not knowing... More

There are no words that describe this beauty of this area from the mountain ranges to the water holes right down to the Ochre Pits. Like all of the region, the colourful curves and swirls of the ochre cliffs tell a story rich with tradition and geological history. I recommend this are to all Australian and visitors alike.

Oddly Trip Advisor doesn't permit/provide for individual entries for 3 of the most spectacular attractions along the road from Glen Helen Gorge to Alice - we so be it - Serpentine Gorge provides the a good walk and a beautiful vista at the waterhole, Ellery Creek Big Hole the best swimming opportunity and the largest flock of backpackers camping nearby,... We stayed at the resort over the weekend of the 4th of October and with our 2 small grand children we had a birthday meal and bash to remember. Beautiful food, wine and service was outstanding. The music provided by the very talented duo of Tim Rickards and Glen Morrison who were very entertaining guitarists on their own was supplemented... More
