Hell's Gate Airtram

About
Drive the Scenic Fraser Canyon with its’ seven mountain tunnels through the historic heart of British Columbia and relive the biggest ‘rush’ on the Gold Rush Trail. A location so unique the ‘afterlife’ have come back to use it as a playground. Early explorers refer to it as “a place where no human being should venture”, and man & nature battle here for supremacy.

The location has beautiful views and the suspension bridge is always exhilarating to cross. Unfortunately these were the only highlights of the day.

This was my 3rd time visiting (last time was almost 20 years ago) and the place just felt run down. Admission was expensive. Toilet was not available at the top. Restaurant was closed because they had water pressure issues (luckily toilets are still flushable). The gold pan area was mossy (I won't touch that water). The exhibits and short movies (VHS quality) were not updated. The fudge and ice-cream shop was selling pre-packaged items you could buy from grocery stores (staff said this was due to supply chain issue). The souvenir shop lady was very friendly and passionate about her job but the merchandise was just not attractive even with a 40% discount offered. Honestly i wish the management could do something to revive this place. It would be a pity to see this place closed down one day.

We had a very enjoyable visit to Hell's Gate. The Airtram ride is great fun and the gorge itself is stunning - the suspension bridge gives fantastic views.
There are a lot of very interesting exhibits, particularly about the Salmon runs and the history of the area.
The staff were very friendly and helpful - particular thanks to Alex for his assistance.

The Views a Spectacular and definitely a photo opportunity but the site itself is run down and not what it used to be .There’s no interaction with staff on the site ,bare minimum stuff in the so called fudge shop 2 pieces of fudge with raisins and random candy .The Restaurant at best is equivalent to a low end cafeteria and out of fries .No bathroom access on top and their website says free season. Upgrades but $5 when you get there .
Bring snacks ,take some good photos but don’t plan to eat there unless you want quick bite expensive food

I have taken many people down the Airtram in the past, but I will not be doing it with any other guests who come to visit.
The individual in the gift store did absolutely nothing to help. When I asked about a product she stared at me and did nothing to help. I finally gave up.
There were no ice cream cones. That has always been the highlight for me to go down and get an ice cream cone. They only had very expensive ice cream bars etc.
Very disappointing!

While we enjoyed the tram itself, and the suspension bridge, the rest of the experience was a bit of a letdown. We had hoped to see more history of the area itself, including first peoples, and to see that reflected in the information shared and the activities and gift shop. This felt kinda cheap & cheesy, even the souvenirs didn't represent the region or its history. In addition, some of the information and signage was downright insulting to indigenous people and the people who were tasked with building the railway. It would be really nice to see representation and history from their perspective as well instead of the heavy emphasis on just cheap tourism. The buildings and walkways have also obviously seen some wear and tear and could use some TLC, our kids were tripping on the screws and nails sticking up out of deck boards and many of the boards are breaking down. Given all of this, we felt the price of the experience was high - $130 for a 5-minute tram ride and walking on the suspension bridge. We chose not to purchase any food or souvenirs.

All that being said, the staff were all very informative, welcoming, and we genuinely enjoyed our interactions with them. There were also plenty of shady spots to sit and some lovely little garden areas. The beauty and power of the river and surrounding landscape was incredible to see, especially from the tram car.

A great place to visit, splitting up the drive time on a family rod trip. Easily bought tickets online, friendly staff, lots of great photo opportunities and the grounds are spotless. An iconic BC attraction that deserves a visit if you’re travelling the Fraser Canyon.

We were kindly allowed to board 2 hours ahead of the booked time. The staff were friendly and appeared pleased that we were there. The tram ride and exhibits were interesting. The power of the water in the canyon is beyond belief. We panned for gold, but alas were not successful! We had a salmon burger and fries which was lovely. Overall we were there just over an hour.
