Explore the Blue Mountains - Your Way!

The Blue Mountains Explorer Bus is the ultimate hop-on hop-off bus tour of the Blue Mountains. With 29 brilliantly located stops across Katoomba and Leura, we give you the freedom to explore this spectacular World Heritage wilderness on Sydney's doorstep - all at your own pace.

The Explorer Bus is more flexible than a day tour, cheaper and less stressful than renting a car, and much more fun than trying to cover all the sights on foot.

Our great-value passes give you unlimited travel all day, making it easy to put together your own perfect day in the Blue Mountains. With buses running every half hour, you'll have plenty of time to hit all the highlights.

We'll drop you at the door of star attractions like Scenic World and the famous Scenic Railway, and give you as long as you like to hang out with our beautiful Three Sisters. Want to stretch your legs on a bushwalk? Simply hop off the Explorer Bus and we'll meet you at the other end!

If you're coming up by train, we pick you up right outside Katoomba Station - and we don't waste any time taking you straight to the big views.

Instead of throwing away 45 minutes of your day walking through town to Echo Point or Scenic World, simply jump on the big red Double Decker bus and we'll get you to the cliff top quicker than you can drink a cup of coffee.

While you relax and soak up the unbeatable views from the top deck, our friendly drivers will entertain you with a running commentary of fascinating local facts and stories.

And at the end of the day, we'll get you back to the train or your hotel with time and energy to spare.

Grab your slice of freedom. Start planning your perfect day in the Blue Mountains now.

A great value and way to see the Blue Mountains. We took the first bus and went to Scenic World. I highly recommend taking the first bus to arrive at the opening time. You will be there before the tourist buses. Your bus pass works for several days and allows you to create you own trip. All of the guides... More

The title says it all. What an excellent advertisement The Explorer Bus is for Katoomba and Surrounds. We were fortunate that in our 3 day stay we got to know the bus drivers Greg and James very well. They treated us as if we were long lost friends and despite the awful weather were efficient, punctual and extremely knowledgeable and... More

Explorer tickets last up to a week which cover our stay. They connect the main view points at 30 minute intervals and are easier to use than the service bus. Drivers are most friendly and source of information and advice. We rode with Rowland, Garth, Jimmy, Damian and a couple of others. We had three wet days and I took... More

Although the Explorer bus seems expensive, the group I was travelling with found it a great way to get around the local area and felt we got our money's worth as we were on and off right through until the last bus at about 5.30pm. We intended going on lots of short walks so our first stop was number 8... More

I decided to forego booking a tour of the Blue Mountains and DIY-ing it, so to speak, with the hop on hop off explorer bus and boy, was I glad I did! It was an easy train ride from Central station in Sydney to Katoomba and we took the train from Leura on the way back. The route took you... More

The drivers provide great recommendations and suggestions for getting the most from your trip to the Blue Mountains. They point out the better walks and suggest places to eat. We had a good hop on off tour. I'd recommend doing the walk from Honeymoon Lookout (stop 15) back to Echo Point (stop 14).

Drivers are knowledgeable and amusing. However, the bus is way overpriced for the amount of time that you might spend on it. We did a lot of walking between the stops, from one view to another. Spent maybe 30 minutes in total on the bus during the day. If you want to do the views only its probably as easy... More

Hi Kinross_silo Thanks for taking the time to write this review. It appears you made the most of your day exploring the Blue Mountains. The Explorer Bus, I dare say, is the reason you were able to do so much walking between stops, because it gets you to all of the walking points fast and then to the next, and... More

Used the Explorer bus on the 06/02/2017. Mixed thoughts. The ups: Very accessible. From the Katoomba station its impossible to miss their shop. The staff at their shop are very informative, friendly and willing to help you. Great work there. If you are travelling alone or in pairs, $44 it is still cheaper than a rental car. They did have... Hi Nilton M Thank you for your review. I'm pleased you found our team to be "informative, friendly and willing to help". I see that you visited in an unusually hot period. We are upgrading our fleet to include air-conditioned buses, and in the meantime, as you discovered, we offer complimentary chilled water on board. It's also pleasing that you... More
