This is such a beautiful place not far from Newcastle and Maitland. We've visited many times. There are walking tracks with some amazing lookouts, as well as 4WD tracks that lead to some great little spots to explore.

The kids love going bushwalking at Mount Sugarloaf, and being so close, we can make it a regular visit. Beautiful spot!

Can’t believe that this piece of paradise is so close to Newcastle.
Without even walking up to the top of the mountain the views towards the coast are fabulous from the car park.
There are several nice clean picnic tables in the forested area as well as wood and gas BBQs. There are even flush toilets.
There are a couple of nice bush walks and several tracks that look like they get regular use from people mountain biking.
We drove out along a dirt road just below Mt Vincent which ran along the ridge. The views to either side were really nice.
So much to do so close to the city.

Enjoyed the bushwalk and the BBQ. Kids enjoyed the cardboard sliding down the hill! Fun family day out

Just hold on to you're hat - it can get very windy!
Great views, natural setting - just be careful of snakes, they can wander a bit.

I was a bit breathless climbing up to the top for the look out views but then I am asthmatic and unfit. It was worth it to get to see the views above.

Mount Sugarloaf is either the or one of the highest features located in the Great Dividing Range which sit to the west of Newcastle NSW.

Set in beautiful Australian bushland it has exceptional views of Lake Macquarie. It is well worth the drive even if you are heading somewhere else and just pull in for a rest break.

The last time I was there there were no facilities apart from toilets. It was a popular destination in the dim and distant days of my youth and I still drive up there every year just to make sure no-one has moved it - the price of nice scenery is constant vigilance. Or was that the name of one of my old girlfriends ? Old age - highly over-rated

It's really great at Mount Sugarloaf - there are many picnic spots with BBQ's either wood or gas take your pick...and the walks are fabulous. If you can make it right to the top there are magnificent views as far as the eye can see in all directions. It is absolutely fantastic! This place is a must see for visitors.

Fun little road to the top where it ends in an array of communication and tv towers. A great view to be had from the top and best viewed on a clear day or perhaps if there is a big storm out to sea

A great place for a picnic and some walking! The lookout is a steep walk from the car park. The views from the lookout are breath taking. The area comprises a lovely array of native plants.

Really only the locals know about this place and is has just reopened after road repairs due to storm damage in 2015. There is a car park with stair access to a viewing platform which has stunning views all the way into Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. On a clear day you can see the ocean and ships far out to sea despite being a good 20km inland or greater.
