About
Dundas is a community tucked beneath the Niagara Escarpment in southern Ontario, Canada. It became incorporated as a town on July 28, 1847. Dundas today, with its picturesque downtown, heritage homes and tree lined streets, still echoes that time. Informative, and fun! At the Dundas Museum & Archives, discover Dundas from the time of the glaciers' slow carving of the valley through to today's vibrant community. The experiences and impact of individuals along the way come alive through objects used in their every day lives. We invite you to visit and explore the stories of people and events that have shaped the Valley Town.

We were drawn to this local history museum by the current special exhibition “A Dundas History in Postcards” which is amazingly mounted (no pun intended!) and well worth the special trip. So much to learn about deltiology (postcard collecting) and the very interesting history of the town captured on postcards. The rest of the museum is also a fascinating educational journey for the out-of-towner! Such a rich history woven into the Canadian 19th and 20th century tapestry which also helped us have a greater appreciation for the remaining architectural structures which make Dundas such a delightful destination. Street parking out front is a bonus.

This excellent little museum has always been the place to go for both residents and visitors to learn about the interesting history of Dundas. The current special exhibition of prints is an outstanding and unexpected bonus. One room of the museum is dedicated to fine art prints from Durer to the present, and contains works by some of the greatest artists of the past 500 years. The exhibition is on until 3 September and like the rest of the museum is free to enter. Dundas should be proud of its Museum, as far larger cities would struggle to put on a display of this quality.

I really enjoyed all of the memorabilia displayed in the museum and was very surprised by their attention to detail. IT was excellent for students, the curious and people of all ages.

Even though the Dundas Museum is small in comparison to others found in larger metropolitan cities, the Dundas Museum's general focus is centred on Local Dundas History, Dundasians who built the foundations for Dundas Growth and Significant interests and community events over the decades. No one there to hurry you through; just take your leislurly time and really learn about small Town Ontario through Dundas and its People.

I was shocked at the History, all the exhibits and the truly positive experience at The Dundas Museum & Archives.
Lots of Parking also many other things to do while in this area. Go shopping in the Antique Shops, have a fun lunch at many of the Dundas Downtown eateries, actually you need a whole day to see all there is to see.

The Dundas Museum and Archive has two small galleries that show paintings by local artists or of local interest. There is often a small (24 or so) special exhibit. Since there is not admission charge you can drop in for 25-30, see a few very nice paintings and carry on with your day exploring Dundas.
Yes it is a small building on a side street so you do have to go looking for it on purpose, but it is surely worth the trouble.

Haven't been there in a while but they have a fascinating collection of Canadiana. One block off the main drag just drive around the block!

How much is the admission ... and is this of interest to a 6 and 11 yr old?
Written July 23, 2019
The Dundas Museum has free admission. Donations are welcome.
There is plenty to interest a 6 and 11-year-old. The first gallery features a small climbing wall, longhouse, a dollhouse, and rocking horse. The 11-year-old would also enjoy the second gallery, which recounts the story of our town and the feature gallery which rotates quarterly.
