Some blue, sky some clouds, and some low clouds all enhance the beauty of the area. The view of the lake with the mountains in the background was spectacular with a clear cool water and the restaurant exterior made a perfect picture. It would be...More
The stop at Balea Lake on the Transfagarasan highway was a great decision. The view was amazing, as it was the highest point of the highway. So one could enjoy both the valley view of the highway and the gorgeous glacier lake at the top....More
It takes about an hour to climb the mountain but the scenery is amazing. It is possible to take a cable car and enjoy a magnificent view. The view of the lake at the top of the mountain is amazing and the atmosphere electrifying.
There could be a dense fog around a lake but a weather could change fast. There are booths and restaurant so you can have a good time there :)
At the lake the temparature could be low (10-15 °C) even in summer.
To be able to take coffee early morning on the chalet deck is something worth experiencing. I like to wake up early morning, to watch the daybreak and sunrise. The view is magnificent and sunrise on the lake shore makes an unforgettable experience while sipping...More

Haven't got vertigo so can't say how bad yours would be but we drove from the south end of the transfagarasan road so when we did drive up the steeper roads to the lake at the top we were on the right which was away from the side where the drop was so to speak. At the lake vertigo is no issue it is actually quite flat up there and for large parts of the drive you only see trees. It is only a small part of the whole journey where you are driving on open roads where you can see over the edge. Hope this helps.
