- NhawkCleveland, Ohio783 contributionsAnse Mamin beach is private, romantic and peaceful!Anse Mamin is where you want to go for a quiet, romantic, peaceful beach experience. Anse Chastanet is fine, but more crowded - go there in the evenings and/or for lunch or dinner and a drink and it's great. Walk down the beach to Anse Mamin and you can have a completely private beach. We were by ourselves every time we went just by walking past the Chastanet area. We had beach chairs from our Airbnb (within walking distance) which was great. Just bring an umbrella as there isn't shade outside of the Anse Chastanet property. I always get eaten alive by bugs - this was no different for me, but my husband didn't have one bite. Keep that in mind if you are prone to being snacked on. Bring bug spray and/or skin so soft for the sand fleas, if that's what it was.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 31, 2024
- Amie BTucson, Arizona94 contributionsMamin or Bust!I had initially set out to snorkel at Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin, but Chastanet was overcrowded with boats and people, so I traveled over to Mamin and liked it so much I spent the whole day there. I purchased 2 loungers and an umbrella for $84 USD in front of The Beach Grill. I spent about 7 hours snorkeling, lounging, napping, swimming, and eating - so I feel the investment paid off. I had the great pleasure of being served by Augustus who made sure my stay on the beach was well appointed, but uninterrupted. I felt as though I was the only person on the beach. (probably because for some hours I was) Unlike some other reviewers, I was not made to feel unwelcome as a non-resort guest. Quite the contrary, I felt very special, and Augustus made sure I had everything I needed, including ice for the water I brought myself. I purchased the Crunchy Baby Leaves salad and added grilled chicken . . . with the goat cheese and cashews . . . easily the best meal I have had in the Caribbean. And I dined at the Treehouse! The spices on that chicken with the almost imperceptible dressing and the cashews, magic in my mouth! Forget the reviews about the burgers - eat this salad!!! The only caution I give is the black sand gets very hot, wear water socks or water shoes, your feet will thank me. There are showering and toileting facilities behind the grill. Who needs Chastanet?Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten September 23, 2024

We visited on our boat charter day and stopped off and spent a few hours enjoying this gorgeous beach. Highly recommend. The water was clear and blue and refreshing and calm. We had “the best burger on the island” at the Jungle Grill as well as a fish burger that was scrumptious. They have loungers you can rent but we set up our portable beach chairs that we brought on our boat charter on own own. We bought buckets of Piton beer at their beach bar and put our toes in the sand! Paradise.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 30, 2024

An extremely beautiful beach. Clear water with fish swimming right up to the shore.
We were served by Janelle and Augustus, who found the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving the guests their space - the epitome of excellent customer service.
We discovered the beach during a catamaran tour of the coast - after visiting several beautiful beaches, we considered this to be the best. We subsequently visited a few more times by road (a 4-wheel drive is preferable to traverse the potholes and steep slopes).
The food was very nice and in addition there was a very accommodating chef (Chris) who tweaked some of the dishes for us.
There is a pleasant and accomplished bar staff too.
It’s not particularly cheap but still good value for such a pleasurable experience… Thanks again to Janelle and Augustus. 5/5.

We made the short drive from Soufriere to Anse Chastanet, and then walked 10-15 minutes along the coast to Anse Mamin. Once there, easily found a spot in the shade to place our towels down to chill and read on this very nice beach. Snorkeling was great right from the beach near the rocks, water was warm, people were few. A food and bar hut is there - but I must say the food we ordered took at least 45 minutes to get to our table even after I walked over to the grill area and asked how long should we expect to wait. Ours was not the only order that was slow to be delivered. However, that aside, if we had stayed here longer, we would have returned to this beach.

Stayed the week in a villa about 30 minute walk, but drove down given the hills leading to and from Anse Chastanet. Advice to walk the extra over to Mamin was great advice. The beach and water entry points just a little nicer, more mellow- and then the grill and bar. Those really are the best burgers on the island, as everyone said. Never rented chairs or the shaded tables/lounge chairs, pretty expensive and we found shade under the trees or behind the one big rock formation. Amazing snorkel just out from the rock formation at the far end, Go along the drop off- from 20' to 60' or so and the fish are amazing. Only turtle siting was under the pier at the other end between Mamin and Chastenet. Oh, the roti on the menu only at the Chastenet restaurant are great!

Nice and pretty beach thats relatively small and short in length (in comparison to others on the island). Part of a resort but you can still access as a non-guest - the beach is split into two parts (with a restaurant in the middle that splits it) and I would say the resort side of the beach (with its pretty thatched beach huts) has the prettier views/beach and water.
To rent a lounger costs $20 (if you aren't a hotel guest) and the coast is covered with seaweed, so the area smells a little bit too! However, because of this, the waters are teeming with fish and sealife, so if you like snorkelling then this is the place for you!

Firstly I have to say that the beach is lovely and the water is great for snorkelling. Unfortunately you are treated like second class citizens from the staff that work in the Anse Chastanet resort. We sat down on a picnic table to have lunch after reading the reviews about how tasty the burgers were from here. We were then asked to move to another picnic table as we were not hotel guests. There is nothing to inform you of designated areas but we dutifully moved to another table. We then felt that we were a complete inconvenience to the waiter as the young ladies on the other table were of more interest to him. 🤣
Another warning is that the resort want to charge $66 US for a pair of sun loungers. We only wanted to stay for a couple of hours and there were 4 of us.
I have to say that the food was good. It’s just the overall experience get’s spoilt by the way you are made to feel.

It is lovely beach but $66 USD to rent two beach beds and a capabana/ umbrella is A LOT this week (we were a family of 4 so it was double the price). We were the only family there, no hotel guests all day long. It felt very private. Its a quiet season so why they insisted we sit in the non-resident guest section is beyond me. At the end of the day, if we are paying premium prices and patroning your food and drink, we should be treated the same as your hotel guests (there weren't any).
It's worth a visit, and it is a beautiful spot. Just beware you are beholden to their services as the hotelier has complete dominance you will not get change from 3 figures USD if you rent beds and eat and drink there. There is no competition. The burger bar is just ok. Ive had better burgers. The lettuce was limp and you don't get much with the burger. TIP, bring your own provisions or sit on a towel is the way to go if you don't want to pay 5* prices. Service was just OK. Not above a beyond for me to tip but it was fine.

Anse Chastenet is way overpriced. The resort is fine. It is on the beach, has fair rooms, good food, nice beach, good service. We've traveled to many parts of the world and all over the Caribbean, and this is an average resort in our experience.
The room and food price was outrageous - as another guest called it, extortionist prices. We felt exactly the same. When we booked our room, at the rate of nearly $1,400/night including 2 meals/day, we really expected the best. We were very disappointed when we arrived, but by then we were financially committed. It was, as I said above, fine, but not worth that kind of money in any way.
Also, the road into the resort is 1.5 miles of a difficult 4 wheeldrive rutty, rocky, holey road. Driving to explore the island was a hassle and unpleasant.
I would not recommend this place for the above reasons.

Staying at Anse Chastanet, we took Meno's birdwatching excursion. It was a two hour walk through forest and along the beaches with a running commentary with all the history and the details of the property and everything you'd wish to know about the flora as well as the fauna. Really beautiful and so much of the background of St Lucia. Highly recommended

The color of the sand is a little darker than you would expect in the Caribbean but the water is crystal clear. Today was sunny and there wasn’t a piece of seaweed or anything. Beautiful. We were able to rent two beach chairs and a tiki for $40.

Lovely little black sand beach. We stayed at anse chastanet and enjoyed the walk over to anse mamin. The burgers are seriously delicious. There is a jungle biking centre and hiking paths.
The MUST DO activity is the 1:45pm (approx) tour with Meno of the old sugar plantation ruins. A hugely important historic site to be aware of and learn about. People were taken from west Africa and were purchased as slaves by a french plantation owner. Meno told us 60 people were enslaved here and forced to work to produce molasses. All of the old buildings can be seen which is incredibly eerie. Worth a visit.

Can you rent bikes to ride through the anse main plantation?
Written January 14, 2019
There are two routes, one for experienced / fit riders and one flatter one. Both are run by Anse Chaternet Resort but you don't need to be staying there to participate.

The best beach ear to where the ship lands ?
Written March 25, 2018
It is quite far from the cruise ships. Depending on how much time you have, you might do better to find something closer.
Written March 25, 2018
Hi... I was wondering if you offer tours to the plantation ruins? I couldn’t find it on the site. We’ll be staying at Crystals and then Ladera in July. I appreciate your help
Stephanie
Written February 28, 2018
Hi Stephanie,
Whilst at Ladera, you can get a bus or taxi to Balenbouche Estate, about 15-20 mins south of Ladera.
They have some beautiful ruins there. It's a very easy journey.

We r taking a cruising including St. Lucia and Martinique, my reason for going. My main interest is Josephine Bonaparte. Can anyone tell me what remains of the Malmaison plantation in St, Lucia, location, etc., and whatever (museum, etc.) pertains to her in Martinique. Cannot find much info. Thank you.

no idea about that, the plantation next to anse chasanet is just trails through native jungle, with some remnants of old plantation strucures, there us a nice guided walking tour where you can learn about all the medicinal plants as well as the history, i really enjoyed it

Are there any means for a non resort guest to secure a bag? such as lockers
Written February 1, 2016
The Jungle biking company at Anse Mamin are separate to the resort. They have changing rooms, lockers etc.
The riding is fun, quite easy (unless you take on the 'Olympic run') and educational.
Written February 3, 2016
Can you go here without a guide? We will have a car and like to explore on our own. Thanks!
Written June 3, 2015
No guide needed as it's a fairly small area. The road access to the Anse Mamin (AM) area gets you within 10 minutes of the AM beach and the 10 minute walk is easy - so yes, there is road access close enough. The road is indeed rough but it's only 3 miles and takes about 10 minutes - completely doable as the Anse Chastenet (AC) resort guests do it every day. You park at AC and walk about 10 minutes to AM; snorkeling is good so bring your gear if you have it. The grill there serves a great burger!

how far from the cruse ship ?in walking distance
Written March 23, 2015
I agree with the other advice given earlier. Castries is probably an expensive boat ride to Anse Chastanet/Soufriere, but that would be the easiest way to get there. Some cruise ships offer a day's diving at Anse Chastanet (best reefs on the island), which includes return transport from Castries to Anse Chastanet, so that may be an option if you want to dive or snorkel. If your cruise ship anchors off Soufriere, which some of them do, then you can hire a water taxi for the 10-15 minute boat ride to Anse Chastanet or Anse Mamin. But don't forget to agree the price with the boat driver before you leave!
