We got here just in time for the 3:00 tour and the last tour of the day! However, it was in the Czech language, but they had a headset available for English. This was Franz Ferdinand’s summer palace. He was a vigorous hunter with almost...More
Looking for a daytrip from Prague? Look no further than Konopischt Castle some sixty kilometers from the Czech capital. This Bohemian castle and its gardens and woods is beautiful and was the main home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his family. The assassination of the...More
This is a very unique castle, formally a hunting lodge. The collection of rare and antique weaponry was fascinating and truly amazing. The walk through the forest and grounds getting to the castle was also very enjoyable.
What could have been an interesting visit (we booked a private tour in English) was totally ruined by our guide called Tony who was Czech but had moved to Toronto (Canada) and was now living between the two countries (not sure - but irrelevant).
This is worth the visit! It's a 15-20 minute walk from the station (pretty direct) and you can choose different parts of the house to explore. They have tours in Czech and English. We went as a group and spent a couple of hours here,...More
Our tour started unremarkable but what an amazing surprise was a tour guide Adam inside the Castle. Adam’s knowledge about the Catle history and its owner made it an unforgivable experience . The common facts that we all learned in school became fascinating. IF you...More

- Some artifacts and historical details that may make the events preceding...More
We went to see the castle and hunting trophies and ended up with all that plus a glimpse into the home life of a famous historical figure. The hunting hobby of Franz Ferdinand was interesting, though seemingly excessive, and was impressive in its sheer volume....More

No problem with parking, well, I do not know in high season. The train which can take you up there we did not see until we were back after visiting. A stop slightly up the hill was not very informative unless you speak Czech. The walk is up hill to the castle which is hard. In the end well worth it as very interesting castle. but they are not well prepared for non speaking Czech.
