Interesting local museum

Sept 2014

The building now houses the regional museum, which displays a very interesting mix of clothes, artifacts, and information on the surrounding area, spanning early, prehistoric periods through to the current, post-Communist era.

The visit takes less than an hour, with the highlight being a wooden model of the old city in the 18th Century. This alone was worth the price of admission!

The more modern history is les visually interesting, but tells a fascinating (to a history geek) tale of what went on in The region from the First World War through to present day.

Well worth a visit.

Comprehensive History of Cesky Krumlov in lovely building.

If staying a night or two & prefer self tours etc, take the time to visit - very well set out and very interesting exhibits covering all facets of life from 1200. Start at top floor & work down. 200k ticket also gets you into the excellent Jewish Synagogue & Photo Exhibition.

The Jesuits acquired gradually six homes at the oposite of their College, for the benefit of seminars they had in 1650-52 the individual houses merged into a single building (architect A Golts), in 1732 sv. Jošt Chapel and the lateral wing to the former upper gate was added and around 1750 the contemporary covers on the ends of the building. After the dissolution of the Jesuite order in 1773 the building served different types of schools. The upper gate that led to a small building of the former Seminar was demolished in 1839. The ramshackle building was since 1940 owned by the city, after WW II it housed a museum and city archives, after its reconstruction in 1970-79, these are the only users.
