The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in half-hourly intervals.

Beautiful piece of history, fascinating to watch and we have done so many times in our trip! # spoilers not to give if away but the skeleton controls time. Note - does not do the thing at midnight which makes for a very disappointing selfie

Went to the clock at midnight, had it on "reputable" authority that it did the thing the most good at midnight. IT DIDN'T EVEN DO THE THING. 0 STARS. 0 POPCORNS Would not pet dogs near here.

Ok, let me say I loved Old Towne, but if you don't like crowds avoid the clock each hour like the plague. Too many people and frankly, was not impressed. Was the only time in Prague I felt overwhelmed by the crowds.

We bought a discount tickets for visit with children. All our grandsons were satisfied with this guided tour . Ms Guide took them from the cellar up to the top of this tower. We have seen the Astronomical Clock from the back side. She knew lot of stories about this .

600 year old astronomical clock, considered as primitive planetarium. A nice place to stop for a pic and understand the technology being used to develop clock. Good time is during noon

I visited during the busy time of the Christmas season. Wonderful atmosphere with the buzz of festive people and Christmas lights twinkling. The aroma of all kinds of Christmas goodies fill the air and the sound of music drifts on by...sounds wonderful doesn't it. Watching the astronomical clock is a must...even more fun..watch the gathering crowd .

We walked past this a number of times during our stay, but only when we went on a walking tour did we get to realise it's significance and the meaning of all the dials. we were there at 11.00am and crowds gather to watch the show, not sure if this happens only at 11.00 or on every hour. Lovely to... More

We did the English guided tour through the old town hall explaining the use of each room and going into the subterrains, the guide was lovely and the tour was very informative. I recommend taking your student card with you as it gives you a discount. We also climbed up the tower and enjoyed the view over the city.

Be there as the clock strikes the hour to witness all the different movements. Be sure and watch the individual figures in addition to the ones behind the open doors. Beautiful.

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
