Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

We attended the Magic Flute and the opera was fun but just being in that spectacular setting was the real thrill. It is a beautiful building instilled with history and class. Might be the highlight of our visit to Prague.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 3, 2023

- JayjayLondon, United Kingdom85 contributionsStunning Theatre - Mediocre Performance of The Barber Of SevilleWe really went to experience a Mozart Opera in this historic and stunning theatre. We were not disappointed with the theatre. The performance was okay and far from the best with average singers, not much humour or fun, quite static with little movement, and a school production style set. It was worth it for the experience. The don't seem to attract big name singers and have a regular company that swaps roles between the theatres.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 16, 2024
- Delve Withrington5 contributionsAn extravagant historic theater that does not disappoint. This extravagant historic theater does not disappoint. The Estates Theatre is an amazing architectural setting to take in a live performance with incredible acoustics. The check-in process is efficient, and the attendants are cordial and helpful. Seating is easy to find, but not the most comfy by modern standards, especially for a 3 hour opera (even with an intermission). Refreshments are available during intermission.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten September 21, 2024
- stephen w55 contributionsMagical evening at The Magic FluteThe Estates is a beautiful old theatre in the centre of Prague, a historic venue in which Mozart himself performed. We were lucky to see the Magic Flute set as it might have been in Mozart’s time, I’m not an opera buff but both the cast and the orchestra (about 35 members each) were excellent and it was a most enjoyable evening. I think a modern opera might not sit so well with the surroundings. Just being at an event sat in a plush box under that ornate Baroque ceiling was worth the ticket price, and being Prague, the admission, drinks and programme were much cheaper than a comparable event in London or Vienna. Most of the audience had made the effort to dress smartly and everyone was very respectful, with not a whisper heard or a phone in sight during the performance - something UK audiences could learn from. I would recommend the front row box seats in either Balkon I or II, which have a direct view of the stage without heads in front, and helpful for short people like my wife. The box seating is loose chairs which allow a bit of moving around to get comfortable.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten October 1, 2024

Mozart presented Don Giovanni in this small, beautiful theater that still functions as opera house. Box seats look amazing. Outside is charming (and bit creepy) Il Commendatore.

What a great experience seeing Don Giovanni.
Buying from the venue direct ensures the best value ticket.
Able to check your coat into the clock room.I did see a couple of ladies slip into dress shoes and leave there winter boots in the cloakroom.
Was just under £10 for a glass of wine and a programme in English.
There is a screen with subtitles in Czech and English above the stage.
Great to see an audience enjoying the performance without feeling a need to record and video it.

The only bluish grey theatre I've ever been to -- absolutely drop dead gorgeous! The blue color is so unique. The carvings and gilding, so pretty. And that's not even considering the history! That Mozart conducted Don Giovanni for the first time centuries ago in this house is so heart warming. Creates a magical connection with history and all that is good in humankind. I was fortunate to see the very same opera that he debuted here. Production was fantastic. Acoustics were great. Price was amazing for a box seat.

One of the oldest theaters in Prague. The building was built in 1783. It is famous for the fact that in 1787 the premiere of Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” took place here.
And now a significant part of the repertoire consists of works by Mozart.

I went to the ballet Trial of Kafka. I wished to see one of Mozzart's works but none was on during my stay. Recommend booking your tickets ahead of time. I personally prefer the National theatre if you have time to go to one.

We attended the theatre to see Leonce and Lena. A wonderful production!
The theatre was absolutely stunning! The staff were lovely and friendly. The theatre was immaculate. And the show was immense.
An entirely breathtaking experience all round; aided by a stunning backdrop of bewitching blue decor!

Can this theatre be visited during the day?
Written November 1, 2019
There's at least one company in the city that organises tours of the theatre building - suggest you ask at the box office. But why not see a show!

Do you have to dress up smart? Cocktail dresses? Business suits? Or Anything Goes?
Written August 20, 2019
Nice trousers, jacket and dress shirt got me in. I saw audience in long gowns and bling (mostly women), suits and one or two casually dressed blokes. Even a group of ladies with mid 19th century style gowns. Enjoy your visit! It really is a nice theatre.

To stress the ambiguity of the character? Czeck sense of humour? It worked great for me :-)

Hi. Im looking forward to a first trip to Prague in March and want to book a ticket for Don Giovanni. Would you recommend a seating location ?
Written September 4, 2016
We sat in the middle 7 rows back - great seats.

I have heard that you can wait and buy tickets at the theatre, but does that hold true in July or do they sell out during the high season? The prices and availability vary by websites, and I have heard you don't need to buy ahead of time. Any advice on trustworthy websites to buy tickets?
Written May 18, 2015
La mejor opción es el mismo website del teatro.
Que disfrutes la función!
