Top ways to experience Robert Guttmann Galerie and nearby attractions

The area
Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

We had tickets to enter this establishment as part of the Jewish synagogue tour and had been told by a Jewish synagogue member of staff that the galerie staff could speak English and would talk to me about the holocaust torah collection.

On arrival and entrance into the galerie I began to speak to the 2 elderly ladies behind the counter who clearly didn't understand any english but did recognise the word holocaust and were pointing outside at the mention of that word.

The galerie is one oblong room with paintings on each wall. That's all.

We left within 5 minutes of arrival of what was a wasted journey.

Small exhibit currently housed here. I wouldn't make a special trip to go, but it's worth stopping in if you have a combination ticket, as it's just around the corner from the Spanish Synagogue.

Easily overlooked by tourists to Prague's Jewish Quarter, the Galerie is located on a quiet side street, behind the famous Spanish Synagogue. In fact, it contains a small but intensely interesting exhibit commemorating the post - WWII history of Czech and other Eastern European Jews, as examined through photos, videos, documents, and other memorabilia. Video interviews, which occupy the Galerie's central area, are especially noteworthy for their accounts of what happened when Holocaust survivors returned home and, in some cases, assumed important positions in the postwar communist regime before falling victim to renewed anti - Semitism and Stalinist purges.

Yes, the site is small and not very impressive but you have to remember is part of the whole Jewish museum and it tells another very interesting part of the Jewish history but form an individual perspective, the one of Robert Guttmann. I enjoyed the paintings and his unique character. Likely a very interesting man. It was the last part of my visit to the Jewish museum and I enjoyed it! I was alone. It is behind the Spanish synagogue in a little street.

Kafka exhibit explores all types of artwork from humorous to serious. Behind Spanish synagogue. Not very large.

Guttmann held his first exhibitions here. Born 20 april 1880, address/town of registration in the protectorate: Na Bojišti 16, Prague 2. He was deported with the very first transport from Prague to Łódź ghetto (transport A 554 on 16 October 1941). The world traveler there became totally apathetic and died there of starvation on 14 March 1942. Exibition with a surface of +80 m2, optimum climatic, located Northeast in the Jewish museum complex at its ground floor. Objects such as parchment, old prints, historic textile collection, late 19th-first half 20th century Jewish artists from CZ, post-war and modern art. Local artist-alchemist Petr Nikl offers here a different approach on the "Golem": an interactive sculpture, tactile sculpture for drawing with light, takes the shape of a huge crystal ball (at least, so it seems from a distance in this dimly lit space).

Not worth a visit. It was in our ticket from the Prague museum but is nothing. Better do something else.
