We had a bike tour in the small town of Olomouc and one stop that we had was in the center and I saw the astronomical clock and it just wonderful how they maintain the clock.

The main square of Town Olomouc is full of activities, music and stands with various Christmas arts and gifts. Tremendous atmosphere, happy and nice people everywhere.

Please take your time and wait for the performance. You will amazed by how communism could combine time, power and history into a landmark like this.

This is a lovely thing to do in the evening while in Prague. The atmosphere is lovely and its amazing how this clock works after all of these years. You can also go up the tower and take in the amazing view. 100% recommended.

the astronomical clock is part of the old town hall in olomouc's main square and although in this ancient setting it is clearly communist in design. the whole square is of great interest and crowds can be seen forming to watch the chiming at given hours.

Must place to visit. Located in the Holy Trinity Column, the astronomical clock is one of the only two in Czech Republic.

I think I would have preferred the original clock which was destroyed by the Naziz who machine gunned it as they were retreating from the Russians in 1945. This one is typical of art from the Communist era, and after the Prague Clock in Old Town Square this one seems crude.

As I understand, the original clock mosaic was destroyed during WWII but the clock itself and figurines survived. So a new mosaic was created in 1954, after the Russians came in but the clock itself is in tact and works. Not as impressive as in Prague, but fm definitely nice little brother.

Though not as famous or spectacular as Prague's clock, this one has an interesting history. It was destroyed by the Nazis during WWII and subsequently rebuilt after the war with a communist theme.
