    Nice views
If you come to Gdansk in winter and would like to see the coty from above you need to go to this church as there is a viewing platform on top of the bell tower. It costs 16 PLN per person, which is about 4 EUR. Anyway, keep in mind you need to climb 400 steps. But it is worth it. The views are lovely. Unfortunately the platform is quite small. So more than 10 people and dang, it is already crowded. Why have I mentioned the winter season? Well, during summer you can also climb the platform of the old townhall. It is closed in winter.

    Gothic church
A very fascinating Gothic church landmark in Gdansk's Old Town. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed inside the church, and I do respect that. Inside, you'll find good paintings and sculptures. Some floors of the church contain gravestone slabs. I recommend seeing this church when you are in Gdansk.

    Huge Brick Gothic Church
It looks large from outside but when you step inside it is vast, in fact I learned that it is one of the largest brick built churches in the world. It is free entry and you can stroll around or sit for a while, you can walk up the tower for a charge but I was informed that there was 400 steps and as I had walked a fair bit already that day I declined. Definitely worth a visit as you explore the old town.

    Beautiful interior with astronomical clock
St. Mary's Church can be found in the center of Gdansk Old Town which is the largest gothic brick churches in the world. Which holds a rich history which dates back years. Was taken back by the interior of the church from its high ceiling vaults and pillars in white which were damage during WWII and the original frescoes have been whitewashed but all still do make a statement. architectural features, beautiful stained glass windows, scattered around the stone floor are about 300 tombstones, chapels, artwork. The astronomical clock dating from 1464 is stunning to see. You do have option of to climb up to the top of the tower. Did visit early in morning which gave me a great opportunity to take many photos of this beautiful church.

Stunning views and so worth it!
We visited St. Mary’s on 2 occasions. Once to just view all of the history as well as to watch the astronomical clock at noon. Such an amazing experience! It can be quite busy but no issues with viewing. We returned a couple of days later and climbed to the top of the bell tower. It was 18 zlotys each and worth every penny! 406 steps from bottom to top! The views of the city were just spectacular!!! Be prepared to be in a small and twisting staircase to begin with but it widens closer to the top. Heights aren’t my favourite but I had no issues or worries!! Highly recommend!

    Important Church
This is the big church in town and is worth visiting because it is highly decorated in a distinctly Easter European style. The Catholic Church is very important in this country, so this church is well-loved and maintained. There was a mass going on so we could see only a little of the inside.

Nice church with a great view from the top of the tower
Very nice church. The church itself is free but you can pay a small fee to go up the church tower. After climbing the 409 steps the views at the top are pretty good. The viewing platform is quite small and got quite crowded when we were up there

A must see in Gdansk, the colossal red brick church in old town Gdansk. Entrance to the church is free and most of the entrance level was under heavy construction work, it will take years before the church is "completed". We paid 20PLN to visit the tower 80 m high, very narrow and steep staircases a real adventure to the top. Not for the "invalid" or for families, or in tourist season, but yes, breathtaking views!

Some Dutch Old Master paintings of church interiors depict tall naves like these which I always thought were exaggerated but this church makes everyone look tiny.
Work on the nave floor meant that most memorials were covered in dust shets. Perhaps that was why we could not find the astronomical clock.
My friend tried to climb the tower, well within the published opening hours but was turned away.

Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also called St. Mary's Basilica, is the historical parish church of the Main Town of Gdansk, often called the "Crown of Gdansk". St. Mary's Basilica in Gdansk has preserved almost fully Gothic architecture, in a spatial arrangement, inside and outside. Built in the years 1346–1502, the church is an example of brick Gothic, a change of style in Gothic architecture widespread in the countries of the Baltic Sea basin. St. Mary's Church is the third largest temple in the world built of brick . Its characteristic silhouette, whose accents are the massive western bell tower and slender corner towers creates a dominant feature in the city's panorama. Monumental, huge and beautiful. St. Mary's Basilica is an icon of Gdansk. The interior of the Basilica is impressive, but the view from its tower is breathtaking. The magnificent panorama of Gdansk, you have to see it with your own eyes. It is mandatory to climb the four hundred stairs to reach the top of the observation tower . A long and arduous climb, I recommend only to people in good condition. Being in Gdansk you can not fail to visit this Basilica .

It`s easy to get `churched out`on tours in Europe, but out tour through our Holland America cruise really did provide a lot of insights that made the visit worthwhile.

I cannot believe the beautiful wall and ceiling paintings were covered in white paint! Too much of a `distraction` for church-goers. At least that was the thinking.

You can see a portion of the paintings inside, which they`ve tediously recovered.

One of the biggest churches in Poland worth to visit. It has a lot of history, which is best sampled within a tour of the city. We especially recommend staying for the 12:00 mechanism on the astrological clock.

Going up is a lot of stairs, which we did not do as this part is not free.

There is enough room in this massive cathedral for 25,000 people and it remains one of the three largest brick built churches in the world. The highlight for me is the incredibly ornate monuments, the walls are literally covered with them. The main organ is especially ornate and beautiful. You can of course climb the very high tower for amazing panoramic views of the old town.

You can see the city from above walking up 409 steps to the tower. It takes some time but it is worthy. Also inside the church you can se beautiful sun-watch from the Middle-ages and the copy of the beautiful painting The Last Judgment - a triptych attributed to Flemish painter Hans Memling and painted between 1467 and 1471.

Originally built during the 14th century, and modified several times in the following centuries, St. Mary's Church was heavily damaged during the WW II bombing of Gdansk. Restorations were started after the war, and some works are still ongoing.

St. Mary's Church is one of the three largest brick churches in the world, and inside the church there is room for 25,000 people. It is in Gothic style.

My first impression upon entering the church was that it was not very interesting. Then I started walking around the naves, and viewing the side altars, and my first impression was totally reversed: every side altar, every side chapel has wonderful pieces of art, including several polyptychs, statues, an astronomical clock from 1464, burials...

One of the most interesting churches I visited.
