CHURCH ON THE ROCK ( KOSCIOL NA SKALCE ) is yet another fantastic church in this most beautiful of cities that has an amazing amount of churches. We had just been for a coffee in Forum Przestrzenie ( superb restaurant and café) and we were walking towards the Jewish Quarter and the views across the River Vistula to this very... More

Formally a church of St Stanislaw and a Pauline order monastery. The site, when Krakow's bishop Stanislaw has been murdered by the order of the king (at least as the legend says), in what was a clash between secular and civic powers. Today the site is still the same on one hand, but it's seems bigger everytime I'm there, as... More

I went to this church several times as it looks to be beautiful inside but it seems they have mass all the time! This is also where St. Stanislaw was murdered by the king. I went to the crypt (2 zl) and it was okay but nothing special. The lady who took my money was crabby. There is a WC... More

Krakow is full of churches, many of them spectacular. If you are an architecture buff, this is worth a look, as it is unique to many of the other more gothic churches in town. However I didn't find much about this place that special to merit a dedicated trip. Our guided tour stopped here, and it was nice to look... More

This is a Baroque style Church with an attached monastery complex built in the late 18th century. Compared to many of the more ornate Churches this is rather plan and simple but with the addition of Baroque stucco work which looks somewhat out of place. The crypt has been converted into a pantheon to Polish writers and unless you are... More

I honestly don't remember if, when we found ourselves at the Skalka Shrine, if the main church was open. If it was, I have completely forgotten that interior. I do remember visiting the crypt and finding it very beautiful, very peaceful, with its celebration of Polish celebrities and artists adding an element of humor/sweetness to it for me. The story... One of the many churches in Krakow. Worth visiting when walking around, but not worth a detour. Nice setting in green surroundings and close to the river.

The historic St Michael's Church also know as Skalka in Polish, which means little rock, hence known in English as the Church-on-the-Rock. It should be known as the church on the rock by the river, because it is beautifully located in Kazimierz on the bank of Krakow's main river, the Vistula (Wisla in Polish), with magnificent views to Wawel castle...
