Really interesting history and lovely building. The castle is broken into a number of separate areas each of which can be toured - at a cost. We toured the Private rooms - really lovely and interesting, huge tapestries and art collections. A guide accompanies you for this. Then we toured the State rooms - this is a self guided tour... The castle is beautiful and well worth a visit it's free to walk around but is a bit hilly it's near the centre and worth the short walk. Nice to do on a dry day and as I've said free.

The castle is impressive, perched on top of a crag and the walk from the central square, along the Royal street is enjoyable. Within the castle is the Cathedral which is worth a look but the castle itself is slightly limited in attractions but in nice weather it is good just to wander around and enjoy the city views. Well worth a visit to see a variety of styles of architecture from several periods in history. Beautifully maintained and a nice way to spend a morning.

The castle was very deceptive, from the outside it looked almost modern. Once you had made it up the very steep incline and through the arch, it opened up into a huge area surrounded by buildings. Through another arch opened up into a massive courtyard area that you could once imagine being full of market traders, jesters and the alike.... More

The castle was very interesting, plenty of space to walk around, not too crowded. Lots of things to see.

We visited in November and were lucky enough to benefit from free entry into all the 5 different exhibits! The State rooms were our favourite, but everything was worth a look. You also have excellent views over the city - a well spent morning in lovely sunny weather!

This impressive castle/cathedral complex is definitely worth doing. There are a number of different ticket options so you can pick and choose which attractions to visit - prices are all very reasonable. Even if you don't have the time or the inclination to see inside the castle or cathedral, it's still a great place to visit, as the gardens are... More
