Stunning, beautiful & scented by the wood, this church is small & busy with tourists. We spent some time just sitting in the pews, admiring the carpentry & statues.

The historical graveyard is just a few steps away to the right of the church entrance & costs 3 zl entry. Pay it!! I was sceptical at first but it really is a fabulous stage of artwork, commemoration & love to the local population including famous writers, poets & artists who came from Zakopane but shaped Poland’s history.

The local mountain rescue & rock climbers who died in their efforts to rescue people are commemorated with the most fabulous pieces of rock or wooden artwork cut & carved by the local artisans & artschool.

Look out for whole tree trunks displaying flora & fauna, angels, bears & figurines.

This graveyard literally tells a story, it is emotive.

One of the most popular religious sites in Poland for pilgrims. The church is very pretty and worth a visit if that's your thing.

We were on the way Dunabe river rafting where the driver stopped for 15 mins to see the Church of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Zakopane located at Kościeliska street and is often called as the "old church". It was built in 1847 and is listed by UNESCO .Nice beautiful and very calm place. You will definitely like the atmosphere and wooden architecture

This is the oldest wooden church in Zakopane. Known as the Old Church, it is located in town, about a 2 minute walk from the underground crossing and the market stalls in Zakopane. It is notable for tourists who want to see the Cemetery of People of Merit on its grounds and the regional architectural style in the church's construction. Some of those construction methods include the use of logs for walls and twisted wood chips to caulk the spaces between them. That caulking ends up looking like sturdy rope. Although built in the mid 1800's the exterior of the church had not turned a silvery grey, but still had a fresh wood look. While the church did have a bell tower and a narrow entry porch, the exterior, however, did not have the carved decor that was I expecting - just plain log surfaces punctuated by a few windows that were not enough to light up the interior of the church.

This 1 nave church was small inside suggesting perhaps that its congregation, when it was built in the mid 1800's, was not large. On the Sunday morning that we visited, the overflow audience had to stand outside to listen to the mass. At the front of the church were many samples of the locals' woodworking and artistic skills. The base of the 3 altars were painted with natural designs and a nice linen cloth on top of each. On the walls around the altars, were large carved religious figures and symbols that one expects to see in a Catholic church - saints, Virgin Mary, cherubs, sunburst, even short columns with detailed cornices. The side walls had reverse glass paintings showing the 12 stations of the cross. The simple pulpit which did not have any ornate carvings was raised and placed on a side wall in the middle of the church. Rustic benches were short in length - probably sat only 3 persons - and didn't have any carvings. The low ceiling made the room feel cozy. Of note, would be the large Black Madonna portrait over the main altar. There was no information about when the art work in the church had been created, although there was a multilingual sign outside the church with information about the church construction and recent renovation.

Outside was a much smaller stone church, St Andrew and Benedict Chapel, which had been built for the use of the owner of the property. This was the oldest stone church in Zakopane. It was not open for viewing. Further on the grounds was the Cemetery for People of Merit for which there was a small fee - 3 zl. Interesting to see how the locals remembered people well known to them - a unique graveyard.

We visited the wood church on a Sunday. Due to mass being held in the morning, I would recommend an afternoon visit on a Sunday. Perhaps due to a renovation in 2003, the interior of the church did not feel old except for the wood benches which were grey with age.

This small and cozy wooden church is a place where you can feel closer to Lord than in any large cathedral. Located almost in the heart of the city and near to the famous cemetery, it represents the faith of "Gorals" from High Tatras region.

This church is a truly lovely and quiet little place in a busy tourist attraction and a wonderful place to see some examples of the local art made throughout history.

This small wooden church is an important place of worship for the faithful and reflects the highland style of a wooden chapel. It is worth seeing even on a short trip to Zakopane.
