The statue of a raftsman in Toruń is a kind of fountain, crowned with a statue of a raftsman playing the violin.
Monument is located in the area of the Old Town Complex, in the western part of the Old Town Square between the Old Town Hall and the academic church of The Holy Ghost.
A bronze figure is placed on a sandstone pedestal and is surrounded by a well made of sandstone, on which eight brass frogs which spit out water from their mouths.

or, the equivalent of the pied piper story, but this time a fiddler who removed a frog invasion! Don't forget to rub a frog's back to be lucky in love or so the folklore goes. A popilar stop over for the school trips.

The fountain was built as a reminder of man who was asked to leave the city. He cursed the city to be flooded with frogs, which has happened and now the fountain proves it.

The Frog Fountain and adjacent statue commemorate the local story of a traveling witch who was expelled from the city, and in return cursed it with a plague of frogs. A Pied-Piper type fellow charmed the critters away by playing his violin, and in so doing, also won the hand of the local princess. Fun to see, and kids will love it. I traveled solo with a Real Poland Tour Group.

We saw this statue at the Old Town Square but didn't know it had any significance as it looked a bit plain to us. Some man was taking lots of photos but we didn't bother.

Flocked to by all the local school children seems to be a number of stories as to its origin..in the old town main square and close to the other key statues like the donkey and the dog so not difficult to find. Doesn't seem to be spraying water so just the frogs on the side and the fiddler hard at work but i liked it, seems a very popular local piece of art.

Little statue, in a very special corner of old town. Very difficult to take picture as this place is very popular with tourists.

It helps to have a tour guide explain the story behind this fountain located between the old Town Hall and the Church of the Holy Spirit on the town square. The fountain has a bronze statue of a barefoot fiddler swaying with the music he is playing on his violin. This young man is placed on a pedestal in the middle of the fountain. Below him on the rim of the 6 sided fountain are 6 large bronze frogs spouting water from their mouths. Perhaps due to low water pressure, these sprays were very minimal, but that didn't stop the children from gathering around the fountain to touch the frogs, now all golden from their many caresses.

The story we were told was that the town, when plagued with frogs, offered the hand in marriage of the mayor's daughter to whoever could rid the town of these frogs. When a young man, a rafter who brought logs to the town on the Vistula River, played his violin the frogs followed him out of the town. He stopped playing when he was in an area of wetlands and the frogs stayed there. That's why the fountain is called the Rafter's Fountain/Pomnik Flisaka. The fountain was placed in the square in 1914 to remember this legend.

For us, the fountain was a photostop and a meeting point. Not an essential tourist attraction, however, IMO. The fountain needs to have more water spraying; otherwise it looks like a monument. If it is a monument, there should be an information board explaining the story behind it, just like the Monument to the Donkey and the Monument to Filus have.

Nice statue, the middle of the town square. Not as cute as the dog or the donkey so easy to overlook but still worth a quick look if you are nearby.
