Cute island but almost better to look at than to visit
The island itself looks really amazing in the middle of Lake Bled as you're viewing it from elsewhere. Reaching the island itself is an expensive (€18/person on a pletna boat) or difficult (rent your own boat and row yourself there) proposition. Once you're there, you can also visit the church, but that costs an extra amount (I believe €15 but we didn't visit). There's also a small museum and a gift shop, which we spent a few minutes browsing through. Since we only had 45 minutes on the island (pletna boats give you about that before they return), we didn't go in the church but enjoyed looking around, taking photos, and following the trail that goes completely around the island. We weren't sorry that we visited the island, we had a nice time, but we didn't really think it was a must-do.

Great to visit this iconic island in Lake Bled
This is the iconic island in Lake Bled. You get there by a row boat called a Pletna. Once on the island you can walk around the attractions free or you pay an entrance fee that allows you to go inside the church (Church of the Mother of God), a clock tower and a small museum above the gift shop. The church is beautiful and you can ring the wishing well that if you are a believer can send your petitions to Mary mother of god. the clock tower has a mechanical oscillation clock that actually works. The small museum compliments the rest of the attraction. If you are already there you might as well take the boat ride to visit the island.

    Pretty island from all angles.
We were desperate to get to the island as we had photographed it from all round the lake. The closest row boat hire was closed so we cycled to town and rowed all the way back to the island. Took 30 mins each way so we had 30 mins on the island for a cuppa. Did not pay the extra charge for the church and tower. The place was overcrowded with tourist partys as the electric boats brought them over. Heavens opened on way back, got soaked but pleased we had made it. Row boat was €25 for 1.5hrs.

    Focal Point of Lake Bled
Bled Island is the focal point of every beautiful Photograph of Lake Bled and it calls to you. It is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, though there isn’t a ton to do on the tiny island. The front of the island has 99 stone steps, but if you have trouble with stairs you can take the path around to the back of the island and then the gentle incline up to the church. At the top of the island is Church of the Mother of God on the Lake with its bell tower, a shop, and a small café. We skipped the inside of the church. It didn’t seem worth 6 euros a person with two teens who were already burnt out on churches. (Though in hindsight I wish I had left them at the café and taken a quick look). Instead we snagged a cute little table outside with a beautiful view for coffee, Slovenian cola (no American soft drinks here), and two kinds of potica cake (they had 5). They also served beer and wine. I can’t say the potica was my favorite (not like Bled Cake at the castle) but it was fun to try a traditional treat while sipping excellent coffee. After our treat, we took the trails behind the church to the dock out back and walked the parameter to the front of the island. We took a traditional Plenta boat to the island for 12 euro a person round trip (f you don’t buy ahead, remember to bring enough cash). They say it’s 45 minutes on the island but no one is timing you so no need to stress. You can also rent a rowboat to get there.

We took the pletna boat which left from near the casino in the hub of Blad lakeshore. The journey takes about 25 minutes each way, and for me the most interesting part of the trip was watching our captain row the boat and talking to him about the lake, and things to do in and around Bled and further afield. The skill and strength required to get the 16 or so passengers to the island, navigate into the dock, and then back again was pretty impressive.
The island itself was fine, but to be honest being on it was no more impressive than what you can see from shore. It didn't appear you could go all the way around, part of it seemed to be inaccessible on foot. The monastery charged a ludicrous 12 Euro entry fee, and as you know your boat will be departing approx 50 mins from arrival there is a limited amount of time you could spend in there even if you were interested. Given it's 15 Euros for the boat trip, not many people are going to want to spend a further 12 Euros. Might I humbly suggest to the good monks of Bled Island that they consider the entrance fees for e.g. the castle (3 Euros) or bell tower (2 Euros) in Piran which both have incredible views over that town as an indicator of what tourists are, and are not, willing to pay. Unless Bled monastery has the holy grail, ark of the covenant and/or the briefcase from Pulp Fiction amongst its collection, I suspect they aren't going to get too many visitors at 12 Euros. In the time we were there I counted exactly one person going in. The rest of us had an ice cream, spent ten or so minutes exploring the island, then waited for the boat to depart.

I would dare say that you have never really been on Lake Bled until you've visited Bled Island, because the place is just that special. We were lucky to visit the island in winter (Dec) so there were no crowd at all, almost having the entire island to ourselves.

From the island you can have a 360 view of Lake Bled, and there is a church and a cafe here. The church charges an entrance fee and is quite old. You can only get to the island via a boat, which there are several options around the lake.

Really a eye-opening experience to be on the island and just admire the lake. Quite the highlight of our Slovenia trip.

Firstly this place its stunning. Beautiful views. Picture perfect. Well worth a visit. But only once for me. We walked around the lake and took the place in. Then got an electric taxi boat for 12€ pp to the small island in the lake. Walked up the steps to the church. 12€ for a pass to the church. For that pass you get to climb the church tower, ring the bell and view the beautiful church. The electric boat runs every hour from 10 to 3. We visited in early Jan 22.
Really nice place but for me something just doesn’t quite tick in Bled. The castle is very nice and the food & staff member we dealt with in the restaurant was very nice. Book ahead.
Window seat only if your buying a main course. People must come a buy a coffee and take the window seats in a restaurant. 🤣 Like I say it’s a once day visit for me.

Visiting the island is a must if you are visiting the lake. The journey over on a oar driven boar is beautiful and very relaxing. Seeing the lake from all the different angles as you travel over is worth the trip alone.

There isn't a lot to do on the island. There's the church, where you can pay a rather large fee to ring the bell, a cafe, and a shop.

Your boat captain gives you around 45mins on the island, which is more than enough

The boat ride to the Bled Island is very refreshing. The lake is beautiful, and so is the little pretty island that has a lovely Church and a coffee shop. It requires a quick stop around 30 mins. You can take some amazing pictures of the lake with colorful boats. sip a coffee and some famous bled cream cake.

To go the island we must use a wooden boat called pletna driven by a man who become a member of a family who operate the boats in this lake for generations. After arrive we must take a stair to the Church of The Mother of God On The Lake. The church is the main building on the island. There was an ice cream stall there and you must try it. Cheap but delicious.
Then we went around the church and the Bell Tower. The interior of the church was really beautiful. There was a tradition here to ring the bell by pulling the rope. The legend here said your wishes will be fulfilled. The other famous here is the legend of the stair case. I forgot the complete story, but it was about a man who bring his viance to the top. Wanna try?
Last, metal bell is the unique souvenir from the island. Don't forget to buy.

This is a beautifully quaint and stunning little island in the middle of the lake. I would strongly recommend hiring out a row boat and using it to travel around the lake and visit the island. The view both from the water and from the island is remarkably pretty.

The only thing more charming about Lake Bled (see separate review) is this magical island in the middle of it. While we opted to take a boat ride to the island, I am told there is also a swim option. Once there you can walk around the island to get amazing views of Lake Bled, the castle, the town, and more. You can also visit the church and ring the tower bell. It isn't so easy to do! There is also a little café to visit and get a bit to eat, perhaps the famous Bled cake. All in all, this is a trip worth taking even if the boat ride seems a tad bit expensive.

The island is beautiful enough, but you can see pretty much the same views from the mainland on Bled, especially from the waterfront. We had a pleasant boat ride but it was expensive, and we only got 40 mins on the island. The people working on the island were mean and unfriendly. The girls manning the cafe were snappish in general and very proprietary with the restroom key. The gelato wasn’t that good. The old men cleaning the restrooms yelled at me for coming too close to closing time (they hadn’t even placed a ‘Closed’ sign by the restroom) and then refused to give me soap to wash my hands until I had to shout back at them. Keep in mind that they are paid restrooms (8 euros at the cafe or 1 euro to unlock the door). The church on the island is too expensive to visit, can’t even go into the main space, let alone the bell tower unless you’ve bought a ticket.

Overall, it was a mistake to visit here. I wish we had gone to the gorge or done some fun activity instead.

It was so neat to walk and look at something so old. And the views were so beautiful! The boat was out was very fun and the guy rowing the boat was fun to talk to. The water is such an amazing color! I really enjoyed it!
