Crystal clear waters with mountains in the background
Gorgeous unspoilt lake in my opinion better than Lake Bled . Lovely Mountain View’s and crystal clear water. There are options to hire boats etc and go onto the lake. Less busier than Lake Bled

    “Paradise Found”
We stayed for 3 nights in the Bohinj area and it was the most amazing place. Found a really authentic Slovenian restaurant whilst out trekking, it was a real treat and totally unexpected. I intend on returning to Slovenia in aug 2023 for 5 days as it’s my birthday and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend it.

Lake Bohinj is a must. Beautiful peaceful and with all the fun and facilities you could want without it being overrun.
The lake is beautiful with easy walking right around. Lovely swimming and a pleasant peaceful environment enjoyed by young and old. If you are walking just one side, walk the north side. There are also free buses, and a lovely boat ride that you can build into your walk.

    Beautiful Lake Bohinj
The largest glacial lake in Slovinia. To walk round would be 12km. It is very pretty with lots to do. Watersports, paragliding just to mention a couple. Cafes, bars, ice cream sellers etc.

Very quite place, more relaxed lake. Lovely boat trip to cross the lake and a wonderful trip to Vogel with the cable car. I would loved a walk around the lake but i was restricted with time.

    Stunning alpine lake!
We visited after we left vintgar gorge - we decided to leave Bled to another day as it was quite busy and pushed on to Lake Bohinj - I'm glad we did - what a GEM. So much quieter than Bled we parked up and stopped for some lunch, I had initially just put an hour on the meter but went back and added more time as after lunch we decided it was so beautiful that we needed to just sit and enjoy the wonderful views from the jetty and take a little stroll along the shore and watch the canoes gliding by. Just a stunning spot to relax and enjoy nature at it's best.

    Another jewel
From Lake Bled we took a bus up to Lake Bohinj and the many small communities between. Lake Bohinj is much higher up in the 5,000 ft mountains. The lake is 2.5 miles long and one mile wide. • We were informed that the steep mountain slopes rise directly from parts of the shore of Lake Bohinj, and the 15th-century Gothic Church of St. John (which we observed from the bus) is at its eastern end. • There is no building / home development around Lake Bohinj, like around Lake Bled because it is in a national park. • The valley that contains the lake also cradles a rural landscape dotted with farm villages. Tom noted there are lots of interesting manual style “loose hay” roofs covered drying racks (called hay racks) that have been left to slowly decay away as modern round bales (hay compacted into a tight roll and enclosed in plastic and then left in place out under the elements until needed. • The main crops are corn / potatoes / hay (for the cattle). This mix results in the country being almost self-sustaining when it comes to food production. • The two local beers are Union & Lasko, but when they are sold in cans. Those cans are always the “tall” ones. So, Mark, no collector cans for you as I do not think you collect those tall ones. Yvonne noted = she thinks Lasko is sold in the US. There are all sorts of tent camping and hostel buildings for the hikers and families to enjoy the beauty nature offers up here in this a national park. They say the hostels can become very NOISY, as the young crowd of hikers tend to consume a lot of beer and whoop it up at night. Hikers take about 4-5 hours to walk around this large lake. We got off the bus at the end of Lake Bohinj to walk to “THE END OF THE WORLD (well that is what they call the location), and then it started to thunder and rain. It was a quick wet walk (dumb TOM forgot to bring our umbrellas). Back on the bus we headed back to Lake Bled, and it had not begun to rain there yet.

Beautiful to walk around this lake
Beautiful lake to walk around. We did the boat tour to the other side of the lake and walked back in approximately 2 hours. It is a very nice and in hour situation quiet walking trail which is not too perfect or paved.

Not too be missed, personally found it more beautiful than bled. The water was so still, visited at a really quiet time which just made it even better. Plenty to do from walks around the lake and hills, boat trips, kayaking etc or just sitting and taking in the views. Plenty of parking, reasonably priced but can see it may get busier during the summer.
Really loved our few hours here and would recommend the trip

Just magical!

Really beautiful lake & surroundings, to swim in the crystal clear waters on a beautiful summer's day was just amazing & the surrounding scenery is stunning. Not too busy or over commercial, you can easily find a quiet spot around the lake & be as one with nature!

What I admired & was extremely pleasantly surprised at was how clean the place & surrounding town was! We were there for FIVE days before we saw our first bit of litter, a discarded cigarette butt!

The whole village comes out to the lake on hot summer weekend afternoons with BBQ's & what have you but the following day not a trace of any litter of damage.

As another contributor has said, one of their favourite places on the planet & a firm Top 3 for me now. 👍

Lake Bohinj is a destination-worthy resort lake in Slovenia. Circling it as part of a cycling trip, we spent the day cycling half the perimeter.

Lake Bohinj features epic landscape as the crystal clear water is surrounded by a beautiful alpine forest. There are innumerable areas along the waterfront to stop, wade in, relax or picnic. Many commercial outfitters offers watersports equipment. Parking is available along the road but it is first come/first serve.

I would return to Slovenia just to return to Lake Bohinj

This lake is very pretty, it kind of looks like a fjord (even though it’s technically just a lake). There’s not much about it, except for enjoying the view and visiting its surroundings.
I do have to admit that the day I visited it was really cold, which maybe made me enjoy it less (because I really was feeling uncomfortable), but the view is completely worth it anyway.

We got the parking fine (100 €) for parking near the road for 5-10 minutes (everywhere in Europe it is OK to park like this). We found out that there was the sign "don´t stop" 4 km further away. What a scam. We did not know that we do something forbidden. I have no words how they treat us as tourists. We wanted to come back to Slovenia, but after this I can´t recommend to anybody. They want only your money. I never experienced something like this in years of traveling around the world. And the lake is ordinary Europe looking lake. Nothing special here.

Lake Bohinj is not far from Lake Bled (by car of course)
The lake area is impressive in its beauty. Clear water in which the mountains are reflected.
Around the lake, there are attractions for all ages.
Bathing beaches, kayaking, Ropes park, Savica waterfall and of course Mount Vogel, one of the must-see sites around the lake.
A place that is all fun for all ages.

The lake was beautiful but it was too difficult to find a park anywhere near it! We had to do two laps along the southern edge of the lake before we found an available parking space at the western end near the camping ground. We had a swim and then headed back to Ljubljana. I really wanted to see the church at the eastern end of the lake, but it was impossible to find a park anywhere near it, even as we left in the late afternoon.

I wish we could have used public transport to visit but with a young baby in tow, driving was our only option.

We went to Lake Bohinj looking for a quiet and beautiful place for christmas and that's exactly what we found. The lake is very picturesque, quite untouched, and there's a small ski station (Vogel) above. It's accessible via a gondola. We stayed at hotel majerca in an amazing room/suite. It was perfect.

Taking the magnificent scenery of the Lake is indeed rather breathtaking, especially when we are living in concrete jungles back in our country. Indeed a place where we could shout “Ricola…” like the mint advertisement from years ago. Having a group of besties to travel with is a bonus to enhance the good vibes.
