The square was very quiet when we visited in early March 2023. It was surrounded by lovely architecture and had a fountain that has restoration going on right behindit. It was in the center of the old town. There was plenty of places to have coffee and meals and the there was plenty of shops around as well. Not the worst old square we've been to.

From here, the whole of Old Ljubljana opens up to a variety of exploring options. Its proximity to the river, eating and shopping businesses, historic statues, old buildings, and Town Hall are easy strolls apart. The main "street" (trg) changes its name from Mestni trg to Stari trg and to Gornji trg. This constitutes the "Old Square" as it is known today.
Fascinating water fountains take on the forms of a kangaroo, another fountain may look like hands with water running through them, and so it goes ... a number of equally innovative ways present water for the thirsty to fill (for free) their bottles. The milk vending machine was the most unusual and unexpected sight we have seen anywhere.
"Old Town" square has the flavor and character of an Austro-Hungarian town center; it is clean, efficient, and nicely laid out. One of our favorite sights was the clock tower with the hunter and horse that come out their glass doors at the top of the clock tower when the hour strikes. We were there at 4 pm and felt fortunate to see the characters pop out the doors and present themselves before quickly retreating back inside the glass doors. This was a cuckoo clock on steroids!
Stari Trg technically lies on the castle (east) side of the river in Old Town. Generally, it lies between the Shoemaker's (cobbler's) Bridge and the Triple Bridge.

The three bridges, the bridges of keys and the ancient buildings make up this magnificent downtown- unusual and spectacular. There is a farmer's market where fresh fish is fried and sold along with other treats. At night the whole place is lit up and makes for a unique walking experience.

Beautiful Ljubljana, yes this old town ofer us so great promenade at the day and at the evening when everything changeing. When we ask our driver from Turanus what placeis we can see for our more pleasure and fun entertiment he propose Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Waterfalll Savica, Gorge Vintgar and more atractions on Upper Carniola in Slovenia. We decided to wisit this direction.
Those are so beautifull places to walk, to see realy good places, to feast our eyes uppon all beautifull views, to be present castle performance on the castle above Lake Bled. There is beautiful overwiev on a little island with church in the middle of a lake, that we decided to go on the island with one of the board "pletna". We have been throe wanderfull time and day was splendid and to short. Food in lokal restaurant was great for everyone and not to expensive. We got accommodation in private apartement in Lesce near Bled, not to expencive but beautifull and comfortable. Next day we went to Bohinj, bat that is the other storry I can't decided was it better or not, but it was surely different. Tale for eternal child soul. I'll tell mor about next time.

Old square is street between Shoemaker’s bridge and Hercules’s fountain (hidden in winter). On left and right you can admire Baroque, art nouveau and other historic buildings with different shops and restaurants as Romeo or Valvasor. Best choice is Tea house near the bridge and on the other side ŠKUC gallery with different exhibitions and performances. Square is less colorful in winter. In summer, restaurants put tables on the street and all is very vivid, even some musicians come to play there

This part of the old town is slightly less busy than the centre (near the town hall and the Triple Bridge) but is still worth a visit. Many old buildings to admire and of course a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. It connects to Mestni trg so easy to walk to (and the absence of traffic helps with the overall quality of the experience).
