I'm not really sure what the hype is about and I'm pretty sure some of the pictures shown are actually Piran. Due to a ferry cancellation to Trieste I decided to do the walk from Piran to the other side of Portoroz Marina.

Most of the cafes were situated on the road side and this was very much more a resort location with a massive casino, quite a shock when you've come from Piran!

Managed to catch a bus back fairly sharpish, the bus this time only took card (they seem to change there minds as to what they accept/whether you have to purchase prior).

The beach of Portoroz is very sunny, with incredible clear water, calm and quiet.
We walked also to the old city Piran, it was a very intersant and relaxing walk.
Portoroz is a beautiful place, we recommend it warmly!

Small, clean beach, good atmosphere, all facilities around: lots of cafés with tasty food and drink.
Kristal and clean water. Safe place, secured by swim guards.

The Central beach of Portoroz stretches on the surface of approx. 25,000 m2, and is divided into the grass and sandy beach, two belong to the part. beaching of the building in which are located the showers, toilets, specially designed toilets for the handicapped, warehouses and business premises – shops with a wide array of gastronomic offer. As part of the beach is also a clinic, which is fully equipped to provide first aid. At the time of operation of the beach there is a sufficient number of rescuers from the water, and trained staff to provide first aid.
The beach has a part of the akvatorija intended for neplavalcem, where there is an increased observation of emergency services, as well as four bathing jetties. During the bathing season is regularly checked the hygienic quality of bathing water. The Central beach of Portoroz for many years, achieves the best results concerning the quality of bathing water.

The variety of offerings on the beach, they represent four beach volleyball courts, playground, water sports, children's amusement park on the water, a number of bars, pastry shop, ... so that's taken care of for the sport and recreation as well as for relaxation and entertainment.

Lovely private area allocated free to hotel guests from the three sister hotels opposite but a daily charge to the public is also an option. Quality comfortable beds and secluded shaded area as well as plenty of room for sun worshippers. Sectioned off part of the bay for swimmers also. Clean WC facilities and nearby food places also. Towels provided upon entrance with either hotel key or payment.

The weather was beautiful: not too hot, sun was out, nice breeze. Sands were some of the softest I have ever felt. TONS of seaweed though - all the time. Food and trash gets caught in the seaweed. Meduza beach is a private beach nearby that is clear of seaweed and has a restaurant right there on it, but you will forego the soft sands as this is a rockier area. On the main beach, there are areas to rent paddle boats, jet skis, kayaks, and paddleboards. When I went paddle boarding in the late afternoon, the area was quite busy with paddle boaters and jet skiers which, along with the heavy breezes, made for choppy waters.

We were not impressed at all with the swimming facilities of Portoroz. The entire area is surrounded by the large hotels and you can hardly find any beach with sand or pebbles. Just concrete platforms, some with plastic chaises longues and the swimming area was enclosed by some sort of a floating boom or barrier to keep away what? I am not sure. At some places the water clarity was fine but some times the water it was murky, you couldn't see your palm if you kept your hand in the water. Definitely not inviting, I had to resort to the swimming pools.

The only reason for someone to visit this beach is if he has never visited a beach in his whole life. I can hardly find something in it that it is not bad. We saw from the photographs that it was a short of sandy beach but the reality was totally different. A concrete beach with transported sand and no sand in waterfront. The only options were either swim from a pier or from a ladder at a concrete seaside. In the artificial sand all place is occupied by private sunbeds so the only free option is the pier. Also in the sea, there are huge algae that complete the bad experience.

Despite being a public beach, it is occupied by sun-bed concessionaires that are not so affordable.

Try to lay in the sand and you may be asked to leave because you are putting off potential clients.

Sea is ok but more lake-like than sea-like...
