Buda Castle district requires min. 2 hours. We walked the chain bridge and reaching the Buda side noticed that funicular line was long so we noticed the electric mini van shuttle service (which will be left as you walk off the bridge.) so took this service. Definetly avoid this, its a TOURIST TRAP. RIPP OFF. There are no signs for... More

The Buda Castle is a must see when you are in Budapest! One can see on the other side of Danube river on the hill top. Looks brilliant whether you are near or from other side of the river bank.... With daylight or under light in the night. When you are near the top on the Buda castle.. this location... More

This castle has a lot of history and is a beautiful location for a picnic and day out. You can see the front of it from across the river as it faces down across the city from on top of the hill but there are gardens within the walls once you get into it.

The Castle (or better Palace) is hosting several museums nowadays but gives a good idea how amazing life must have been in the 17th and 18th century. Even if you dont go and visit the Museums, just going up the castle hill and having a wonder around is just great, plus gives great views over Budapest and the parlament building... More

Nice tree-lined promenade for resting and enjoying the views. Beautiful monuments, statues, and ancient ruins. If you time it right you can watch the changing of the guards. Enjoy the gardens, history, art. There is a funicular but the line was long so I walked up. It is a good climb and would take a while for someone who is... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
