This is another must if you are visiting Budapest. The interior is fabulous and the guided tour very interesting. We were passing the door and were very lucky that a tour in English was just starting.

Although I am not a fan of Opera I do love the buildings that opera is performed in and the Hungarian States Opera house is one great example. It's a grand looking building that certainty commands attention and dominates this part of Andrassy Utca. As we were heading to the Publin Irish Pub down Andrassy Utca on a gloriously hot... More

This probably deserves 5 stars although opera is not my thing. The building is amazing and the show othello was great. We arrived a little late but the staff were very accommodating considering. It's quite expensive but it's the best place in the world to see opera. If you can get tickets on the first few nights you may get... More

There are tours of this building at 2, 3 and 4pm daily. Not expensive and you get a mini opera at the end which consists of 2 songs. I am not an Opera fan but loved the tour and the building and to be fair was pretty blown away by the Opera singer at the end of the tour. If... More

I loved the architectural design of this Opera house inside and outside. I watched Otello and the sound was amazing with great performers. Unfortunately the service was without a smile from the main entrance and at the end trying to make photos, they literally chase you out. So a very bad anticlimax after an explosive performance. The ushers could use... More

This incredible monument to sophisticated Hungarian art is best seen by buying a ticket to a performance and soaking in the atmosphere, the interior of the building, and the classiness of the audience. No mobile phones, no-one badly dressed, no-one rising to use the toilet mid-performance, no-one eating, as a person who struggles like hell with the bad manners of... More

This is a splendid building and in remarkably good condition. It has an amazing and very ornate entrance hall full of marble and sweeping staircases. The auditorium was a little disappointing with very old seats and somewhat threadbare carpets but one day, they will renovate. actually, the limited soft furnishings tend to improve the acoustics and where we were in... Saw a ballet there this year, first one. Lovely performance. The interior is breathtaking. Versailles may be more extravagant, but I don't think so. Comfortable to watch a performance, the intermissions spent with mouth agape. Recommend trying to see opera or ballet on your visit if at all open to it. Dress at least business casual.

The opera house in Budapest stands as one of the most beautiful Neo- Renaissance buildings in Eurooe. Construction included the use of marble and frescos by some of the best artisans of that era. Beautiful and impressive. The architecture of the building im itself worth a visit. Even if you aren't an opera fan, a visit to the State Opera... More
