The area
Neighbourhood: Gellért Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.

Be ready for a hike in the upward direction
Nov. 2021
What spectacular views from the top...if you get there :) the hike up is not for the faint hearted but if you get there then it is worth it. It was very disappointing when we were there that the top is all closed off for renovation works

A disappointment
Oct. 2021
Having really looked forward to seeing this even with a strenuous walk to get to the top was very disappointed to find that it was closed for renovations. There should have been a sign at the bottom saying it was closed rather then letting folk get a "heart attack" climbing the steep hill

We wandered over to the Gellert Hill a couple of times during our stay as it was so beautiful. The views of the city are breathtaking from up here and well worth the walk.

A must while staying in Budapest
Jun. 2020
An absolute must while in Budapest. Incredible expansive views of the city. Whether you go up in the evening, stopping at restaurants on the way, or go up for drinks at night, or go on a hangover walk in the morning, you must must do this while visiting Budapest.

It takes o bit of a hike, but it well worth it when one reaches the peak and see the monument and a magnificent view of the city of Budapest.

Good exercise, good views.

A half hour plus walk up an established track which includes stops at different vantage points. The starting point near the end of Elisabeth bridge gives you the best views. Take the left side of the stairs. If you see the Statue of Liberty you have reached the top. This lady celebrates the freedom of liberty from the Nazi occupation. Great at sunset or walk up at night and see the lights of Budapest. Walking shoes recommended.

The views and sights which you can witness there is definitely something else. We were so happy to see the whole city, especially in the night. Worthy!

Exceptional view of the Danube !
Aug. 2020
Beautiful view. We got a taxi up from Buda castle (use the Bolt app in Hungary, good value), and had to walk up a short while.

There is a view of the Danube as you walk up almost at the top of the hill with the citadel on your right (together with food / knock-knack stalls). Keep walking until you come to the Liberty statute at the very top. There is a bar too with music. The views at the very top are the most outstanding. We sat on the walls watching the Danube, drinking beer.

There is a walk down the hill, starting from the liberty statute. Very easy to follow.

Toilets are 1 euro, almost at the top.

Fantastic views
Oct. 2019
Great place to walk to when the sun is setting to see Budapest and Danube entering darkness with the lights starting to come on. Requires a bit of walk up - fairly steep but rewarded with a near 360 panorama.
