Neighbourhood: Gellért Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.

- AmaMammaRome, Italy39 contributionsDelightful!Delightful! Our second bath in Budapest and we loved it. The facility was very clean. We were there early on a Saturday morning and it was clearly more locals than not. Lots of older gents and ladies in groups together in the Turkish baths. There were plenty of different options and since it was Saturday the Turkish bath was co-ed. We loved the rooftop pool where we could look out over the Danube and the beautiful winter sun was glorious. There is a bar and restaurant we did not try but the entire place was clean and well-run. I could have spent all morning there but we had to leave to continue to explore the city. I highly recommend this over the more famous baths.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 25, 2023
- NicoleSeattle, Washington58 contributionsRelax revive refreshHad a lovely time. There are several negative reviews but my experience was very positive. The front desk was helpful and the gentleman spoke English. He explained to me where to go to change and how the entrance band worked. he then explained again to my friends without any attitude. In the locker area someone showed us where to go and how to get to the baths. It is a maze, but there is excellent signage in English. The Panoramic pool was lovely... they all were. Some things to know: 1. On Tuesdays the Turkish bath section is only women but other sections are coed. 2. I wish I'd brought a second towel to leave in my locker as the towel I brought got very wet. 3. There are bodies of all shapes and sizes, and bathing suits to match. Don't feel embarrassed by how you look... no one cares but you. Can't wait to come back to budepest and go again.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 5, 2023
- Martin13 contributionsAmazing bath and be careful of cameras in the changing roomGreat traditional part of the thermal bath. I also liked the view from the outside pool, even thouh it is pretty small one. The wellness area is not so glamorous. Bring your towel and flip flops. I did not like cameras in the changing room. That was a bit too much.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten December 23, 2023
- Istvan S7 contributionsSmply the bestI’m sure this isbthe best bathbin Hungary. Nice traditional and nice new parts. The turkish area is amazing with severas different water temperature. The new part is amazing with the pool on the roof with a cocktail in yourbhand :) so I think this is the best thermal bathbis Hungary!!!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 31, 2023
- jimilia385 contributionsBrilliant ExperienceAbsolutely brilliant day out. Booked online and was confused by the ticket options so went for the full ticket. When you walk in, on the right side are the thermal baths, which vary in temperature. On the left side is the main swimming pool, further pools with bubbles and fountains, steam and sauna rooms, the rooftop pool, and restaurant. We had such a relaxing day here, would definitely visit again. Although would probably skip the thermal part and go to the pools instead. We shared 1 cabin between us, and the wristband you're given is used to lock and unlock it, you can do this multiple times. You get changed and leave your stuff in it. Reminded us of a confession box in church!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- Francesca HCamborne, United Kingdom509 contributionsBeautiful baths but very priceyThe rooftop bath is the real stunner here with a view of the Danube. The indoor baths are lovely too and very atmospheric. The bath is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. There are a lot of steps up to the roof and no lift. We liked it here but it was expensive.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- Angela EManchester, United Kingdom19 contributionsIt's a good time wasterI wished I'd stayed longer but I couldn't figure the place out. I think there's a roof top swimming area. I went on for cold and warm dips. Clean and reasonably priced.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten March 20, 2024
- Terry WBracknell, United Kingdom1,384 contributionsNothing special but the food. It's OK and a touch municipality like. Apart from the bath that is used for either ladies or men, it's like being in an ordinary spa, nothing special, I would not return. The food served in the restaurant was of a great quality.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 27, 2024
- astridManchester, United Kingdom80 contributionsIncredible baths! These baths were a little expensive compared to others but once we were inside, we thought it was well the money for the experience. We went towards the end of the day so it wasn’t so busy. The lockers and showers were clean. The site itself is sprawling and a bit of a maze but don’t be afraid to explore. The rooftop bath was a highlight with its stunning views over the city, although be mindful that if there’s lightning and thunder, no one is allowed out upstairs. Bring your phone in a waterproof case because the views are just something you want to remember. There is a bar up there but it was closed so make sure you visit the bar on the ground floor and ask for a plastic cup! The old baths downstairs was also a highlight but we nearly missed it! Probably the hottest steam room and saunas I’ve been in which was lovely, nothing now compares at home!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 19, 2024
- ilana01Louisville, Kentucky149 contributionsGreat experience of a thermal bath in Budapest, especially the rooftop!Loved this place! One of the highlights of our stay in Budapest. I wanted to experience a thermal bath and was hoping to avoid the most touristy ones. We also wanted one that opened early and was co-ed, and Rudas opens at 6am and on Saturdays is co-ed. The staff was helpful in explaining what to do. I did buy tickets ahead of time which is recommended. There were 5 baths of different temperatures in the first room which was enclosed with a beautiful ceiling. The second room was enclosed but with open windows so felt more light an airy. This room also had a hot soak and cold plunge with instructions on how to do it. There was also a lap swimming pool which we did not use. Lastly, the rooftop pool was divine. The views are unbeatable, the river, the parlaiment, the castle, the rocky cliffs, the bridges. Grabbed a few waters on the way out but they do have more drinks and snacks available. Would recommend!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten June 23, 2024

We went on a Saturday evening having turned up on a Friday 45 mins before the thermal baths were closing and being led to believe this was not enough time. In hind sight this would have been enough time for the thermal baths. The baths overall are a good Budapest experience. I wouldn’t describe them as relaxing as they were very busy in the early evening. There isn’t much instruction on the best way around but that’s part of the fun! A tip is to start in the small 28 degree centigrade corner pool diagonally opposite where you enter the baths if coming straight from communal changing area and work your way around to next two higher temperature corner pools followed by main centre pool then finally the hot 42 degree corner pool.
We bought a ticket that included all areas as we wanted to try the rooftop pool which was part of the wellness area. The rooftop pool was a bit of a zoo but nevertheless there were great views from the comfort of what was effectively a warm communal bath!
As to cleanliness expect good local authority pool type cleanliness. It is a busy thermal bath with lots of people so naturally not sparkling clean but really not too bad and that said from someone who is a bit of clean-freak! Definitely take flip flops and a towel (both available to buy otherwise).
The whole experience might not be to everyone’s taste given how busy it was but we enjoyed it!

The Rudas staff was kind and they can provide information in English.
I strongly recommnend to take towels with you, so you do not need to pay for it.
Rudas is very well located and it is easy to reach the place. The best deal is to buy the full ticket, so you can use the swimming pools and also the sauna.
The water temperature varies from one swimming to the other, and the maximum temperature is 42 C (really hot; you cannot stay too much there). Nearby you can also find a 2 C (really cold) bath, and the thermal shock is a nice experience for the body.
just walk around and discovery the beauty of the place. An external rounded swimming pool with the mountain or city view is charming, even during the winter time.
They have a wet sauna, and several dry saunas, with temperatures going from 50 to 100 C.
You can spend more than 4 h inside, so come with time to enjoy it.
Other similar places exist in Budapest, but after comparing prices and benefits, I choose Rudas bath, and it was an amaying experience.

Per person the amount is 6500huf (around 20€) BUT you have to bring a towel otherwise you pay 4000huf (12€)JUST to rent it! And, if you want a cabine for yourself to get undressed you pay 7000huf (21€), more than the price of the spas. Quite shocking. And the employes don't have a correct attitude, they are not very nice: it was my first time in thermal baths and whatever you ask they look bored to answer your questions. Abd another thing: we didn't see the ottoman baths.... Maybe because most infos are not translated into English.

Me and other two friends went on a Tuesday evening and paid 16€ for wellnes and termal experience.
The baths are very big! In fact it’s to get lost but there are a lot of maps indicating everything and also personall is very avaliable.
The locker rooms are for both men and women but obviously have changing rooms, bathrooms and showers (equipped with bath foam). To enter the locker rooms and all of the batsh you have a bracelet that also allows you to lock your locker (very efficient). And also the locker rooms have a really cool device that rinses your swimsuit from all the water.
My personal favorites were the pools on the ground floor in which you switch from very hot to very cold, and also the termal part (that Tuesday was accesible to only women) was spectaculare and last but not least the rooftop is amazing but tricky to find so it’s better to ask.
Not really crowded when we went and very organized. We had a great experience. 4 stars just because it was frustrating sometimes when we didn’t find what we were looking for so i would maybe recommend more directions.
Please note that all the baths in Budapest are historical so if don’t except VIP treatment or complete relax like todays spas then you will certainly appreciate everything more.

I visited the Rudas Baths on a Thursday (men only). The protocol was a little confusing at first. There is an extra charge to access the outdoor rooftop pool area which I was not aware of until after I had paid and entered the bath area. Inside there is one big thermal bath along with 4 smaller pools of different temperatures. Also a steamroom, dry sauna and massage rooms. You are given an apron to wear, and there are sheets available to dry off in the back area, so you really don't need to bring a towel. Overall I thought it was an interesting vibe and very relaxing after a day of sightseeing.

Good but communication needs improving. We went on a Sunday morning and it was very nice before a larger crowd came. Bring your own towel and flip flops if you can but they are also available for purchase. The main room is very interesting with 4 smaller temperature varied pools and one larger one. We went back on a Friday for “night bathing hours” and were greeted by this disappointing sign (see photo). If we had known that night bathing hours were cancelled (should have been listed online), we would have planned our day completely differently and arrived in the afternoon instead. I hope this helps someone who reads this review that is planning to go to night bathing hours on one of the listed days.

Don't go here on Saturday night! We went here during the daytime in 2017 and that was fine. But we visited on Saturday night in 2021. Don't bother. They let way too many people in, without decent supervision. A group of guys was literally spitting in the hot tub on the roof. They played loud music and it was overcrowded. Horrible experience all around. Maybe still good during the daytime or weekdays. But we definitely don't recommend you go here on Saturday night, unless you like bathing in an overcrowded hot tub with people's spit floating around.

Visited the Rudas Baths on a Tuesday evening (when the Turkish baths are for women only). I was confused with the ticketing system so ended up buying an all access ticket (where’s really I just needed one for the Turkish baths) but it as fine - with the all access ticket I was able to try the rooftop bath which had great views over the city! The original Turkish baths are really impressive and it was like being transported back in time. A really relaxing experience.

During the day we visited the city and around 6 pm we went to relax. Hungarian bath facility not overly large, but satisfying. The view of the city from the swimming pool outside is beautiful. Good organization and great price.

We spent an afternoon here, originally we wanted to go on a weekday but turns out those are womens/mens days so we couldn't go in together with my partner. We went back on a Saturday, it was quite crowded although not as bad as some other people wrote here (maybe we were lucky). The rooftop is really nice, loved the view!

The website seems to show 2 ticket options - Turkish Bath and Wellness. My husband and I just want to try the spa pools so which ticket do we need? Also can you turn up and pay on the day or should we book in advance? Thanks for your help.

Salve tra poco partirò a Budapest e vorrei fare questa esperienza delle terme solo che sarò libera solo di sera perché starò in gita con la scuola. Sono aperte le terme la sera? Se si quanto costa il biglietto? Bisogna prenotare in anticipo?

Interested in the sole use of the panorama pool at night as I’m visiting for my birthday in April. Is the panorama pool heated, warm etc? Thanks.
Written February 11, 2023
The roof top panorama is very warm, it’s just you have to walk to it in the elements. I doubt you will get sole use of it though. It is donut shaped and people shuffle round to get the city views.

Grazie a tutti!
Written November 17, 2019
L’ingresso serale è solo venerdì, sabato e domenica e possono entrare tutti (uomini e donne).
