After seeing the Shoes on the Danube we carried on walking. Round the back of the Parliament Building is a brass figure, looking well to do on a bridge. Stopped for photos with this person then went to the chocolate shop opposite. Loads of tourists about and we all waited our turn for photos. Nice.

We decided to go on one of the many 'free' walking tours (you have to pay and be respectful) available, and it was the Communist Tour. We went to lots of different places with an excellent guide who knew almost everything there was to know about living in Communist Budapest, but when we reached this bridge sculpture she was quite... Stumbled accross this huge monument which looked lovely in the snow although I wasn't sure what it was a monument for at the time. Good to see if you're in the area

Another one of those things you simply come across by chance in any large city. Ideal place to have a picture taken on the small bridge next to the statue, but little else.

There is a nicely made sculpture of a hatted man on a bridge that you encounter suddenly near Parliament. It's nice in just how approachable the subject seems, standing on a bridge rather than looking down at you from his horse, or pedestal, or just high atop something. It's a lovely sculpture, but the problem is that it's an important... More

This monument is situated a short distance from Parliament House and commemorates one of the leaders of the 1956 Hungarian uprising against Soviet rule. Most monuments of this type usually have the person standing atop a plinth with an inscription. For this monument it has the image of Nagy standing on a small bridge and facing the Parliament and makes... More

It's worth a visit to the Imre Nagy monument if you are nearby the Parliament. Not a lot to see but it's a nicely designed corner park and an important part of Hungarian history

You will pass this small monument on your way to the parliament building from the Liberty Square. Its picturesque in a non assuming kind of a way which is the way the former prime minister would probably want it. Unfortunately, unless you read about the man the monument will mean nothing to you. Still, a cute spot to sit down... More

Right in the middle of town. Don't miss it if you go on a walking tour. Free, cool, different. Great photo opportunity too

Not the average monument but a good reminder of the history of Hungary. At the same time, it is also rather fun.

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
