A great option for hot days, especially during the summer (100F days). Great for families to spend the day doing something fun and adventurous. Overall, it was a great experience that had a little bit of something for everyone. It's a guided tour and we had an amazing, fun guide (ask for Victor). Our whole family loved it and the caves are really well preserved and give you the feeling that you are traveling back in time. We took the walking tour, which is suitable for all ages, strollers, and handicaps, but there's a different more extreme tour that looks really fun for those seeking a more adventurous experience. You need to book in advance (at least two days for the extreme one) and I definitely recommend bringing warm clothes since it's about 50F inside the caves.

Great views. The audio guide, if you did not get your language tour. Quite a low price, but... Nobody said this is so risky and requires a good sport shape in some places. The cashier could warn us since we are around 60 years old. They have very steep and long stairs (almost vertical) without any belay, which is a real life risk.

This tour is part of the city card free experiences and a good reason to head out of the city centre and explore wider Budapest. The tour is great with audio guide in English. Free lockers in the visitor centre and little cafe on site.

Great caving experience, challenging but doable in a good dry environment.
Our guides were knowledgeable, funny and safety aware.
Use Bolt taxi to there, easist way although tram and walk is possible.

Me & my partner visited the caves today after discovering it was free with the Budapest Card (1990HUF otherwise) and what a great decision it was!!

We arrived at 10am opening, ready for the first tour at 1015am (catch the number 9 bus. Then short walk to number 65/65A. Stops outside the entrance). Greeted my welcoming and friendly staff. All staff spoke good english.

We were the only 2 English speaking in a group of 8 (6 hungarian). A tad concerned we would miss out of the guided tour due to not understanding the language. We were handed a sheet of brief but informative sheet regarding the stages of the tour.

We had a female guide (sorry forgot her name) who greeted us with a smile and explained everything. After every talk in Hungarian she would move the other onto the next stage whilst she stayed back and explained everything in English, which we thought was fantastic! Super lady.

The caves themselves are a wonderful experience. There is one section where you have to climb steep steps, however the guides will wait for you and wont rush you.
There is a section within the theatre chamber where music (Lord of the rings) is played during the talk. What a beautiful experience this was. Amazing!!

Amazing day. Thank you!

When I say "long" I mean around 1 hour and 15 minutes and I mean it in a very positive way because we are cave lovers and we are tired of the standard in-and-out 20 minutes cave tours. We were pleasantly surprised with this one. And it is not a walk in the park either because there is a portion where you have to climb a series of stairs so steep that they were almost vertical. Our guide pointed out that the stairs are the equivalent of climbing an 8 storey high building. So if you are not a fit person, be warned. We welcomed the challenge, especially my child. As for the temperature, it is indeed very cold. I felt I needed gloves at times (we visited in winter time btw).

I have been here a few times, but with my cousin and his girls visiting, I wanted them to do something out of the ordinary and different. The girls as well us, had a ball. It is not that easy to keep teens and tweens impressed. But it worked.

First off, it is cold inside, bring a sweater. You will be glad that you did. Wear good shoes for walking and climbing steps etc. Our guide was quite fluent is English and was very patient with us. Our group ranged in age from 60+ to the youngest member who was about 5yo. All were able to complete the tour including the climb towards the end.

My favorite part was seeing the sand dollars embedded in the rock. Living on Florida's SW coast, we see them yearly in the water, but to see them underground was cool.
Again, fun for all ages.

This was free with the Budapest 72hr travel card. It was very interesting not too cold, around 11 degrees but be warned you have to climb a very high ladder at one point. It took around 30 minutes on the bus but it is worth the visit. It was lovely to see bats in the cave.

Forget all the crowded churches, castles, etc., do something different! The tour is a great adventure and you can go through a part of a whole system of caves stretching for many kilometers. What you see inside is stunning and overwhelmingly beautiful. The tour takes almost one hour and mine was unfortunately in Hungarian, but the guide was doing his best to be helpful with any English explanation needed and I also got some written information. It's obviously rather cold inside and it's not suitable for small kids, since there are steep, wet and dangerous steps at one part of the passage. You can easily reach it by bus, which operates 2-4 times per hour. Go with the metro line M2 to Betthyany ter, change for suburban train No 5, go two stops (till Szepvolgyi ut), walk about 100 m West (away from the river) to Kolosy ter and take the bus No 65 or 65A to Pál-völgyi cseppkőbarlang (fifth stop if I remember correctly). The tours begin 15 minutes after each hour, from 10 to 4 pm.
