One of the most romatic modern art museums in Europe- the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum- is located less than 20 km south of Bratislava. It was founded by the Dutch collector and patron of the arts Gerard Meulensteen and the Slovak gallerist Vincent Polakovič. Since its opening in 2000, the museum has arranged numerous exhibitions of leading figures of the Slovak, European and world art scene, including Karel Appel, Sam Francis, Miroslav Cipár, Markus Prachensky, Ilona Keserü Ilona, Rudolf Sikora, Martín Chirino, Vladimír Popovič and other artists. The museum has attracted thousands of Slovak and foreign visitors as well as royal visits and leading political, social and above all cultural figures. Its unique location bordering on three countries, and sensitive integration with the surrounding nature and the River Danube provide visitors extraordinary views of exhibited artworks and of the flora and fauna unique to the peninsula of art in every season of the year. The adjoining sculpture park features the Works of a number of artists, among them El Lissitzky, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jim Dine, Hans van de Bovenkamp, Jozef Jankovič, Arman, Jean- Claude Farhi, Vladimír Kompánek and Rudolf Uher. A magnificent view of Bratislava and the mighty Danube offer unforgettable experiences at sunset. After the completion of the extension, supported by the Government of the Slovak Republic, the museum is a new symbol of modern Bratislava, recommended by prestigious world guide books and social networking websites. See you by the River Danube, friends!

After watching the displayed art I can say that it can be bold and it can be vibrant. In all the display here showcase a exhibits that sometimes standout and sometime tend to blend with the natural surroundings.Either way they stand out and invite you to come back and revisit the place.I enjoyed my visit and intend to come back.

Don't miss this very special place, regardless about how you feel about art museums. The location, by itself, brings the majesty and power of the Danube to life. The gallery will mesmerize your soul and take you places you've not been. The collection is rich in Slovak and eastern European perspectives and creativity. Like the others who've written here, it... Neither me or my husband are art people but this is a must see. Amazing art and sculptures, beautiful environment on the Danube. We easily spent four hours there. Note catch bus 90. Easy!

Dear Debra, Thank you for your review. It is interesting for us to read that even people that are not interested in art that much can have a wonderful time on our peninsula. Our director likes to call it an "Art sanatorium" in a sense, that in combination with location and art it heals your soul. We are happy to... More

I really ain't into art museums but this one totally convinced even me. The location by the water is just beautiful and overall the entire design of the museum. The art and exhibitions are very fascinating and diverse too. Would totally go again. It may be a bit of a bus trip, but it is worth it!

The Danubiana is on a spit of land surrounded on three sides by water, 30 mins by road from Bratislava. The outside sculptures are amazing in their setting, and the indoor space has far more to see than you might expect. Particularly affecting exhibition currently is Crossing Boundaries. A gallery not to be missed.

This is an amazing museum, well worth a half day's trip out of town. It is easy to get to by bus. The modern art is an eclectic collection, a good portion of it Slovakian. The art is complemented by a spectacular museum building -- probably the most beautiful art exhibition space I have ever seen. The location on a... More

We enjoyed the exhibition very much and sculptures in the garden. The view in the café is splendid. Children enjoyed the honey cake and for us latte macchiatos! It is a perfect half-day trip in Bratislava.
