Historically, however, the city council, the national committee, or the municipality have fulfilled whether or not they are the town hall. The Town Hall provides a complete written agenda of the municipal self-government, preparation and execution of decisions of the municipal council and the mayor, professional documents and documents for their negotiations, as well as contact with citizens. In most questions, however, it does not decide, only executes decisions of self-government bodies.

The title I gave to my review synthetizes the paradox which makes Bratislava so charming. As I said about Ljubljana, Bratislava is small and friendly, doesn’t look like a big capital city. I remember I was feeling at ease there.

As Bratislava Old Town is quite compact, so is the Old Town Square. Its not an overly large square but is still a good little square.
It is surrounded by some lovely buildings like the Old Town Hall, some palaces and some embassies. It has some statues and monuments worth seeing in it. It also has restaurants and bars in it. You can get a good view of the square from the tower in the Old Town Hall.

This quaint town square features interesting buildings that are colorful and well-maintained. You can see the town hall (with a tower), some embassies, a fountain, a palace and several restaurants nearby. It's not large, but worth a short visit.

The heart ❤️ of Old Town, place for markets in Christmas 🎄 time. Very small, connected to many street with pubs, restaurants, coffeehouses and shops, few hundreds meters away from castle 🏰 stairs and Michalska gate. Neighbouring with Frantiskanske square and old municipality house

Biggest square in Old Town, has a lot of nice buildings with beautiful architecture and it's close to many shops and restaurants, I think it's definitely one of the main attractions in Bratislava.

Hlavné námestie is literally the Main Square of Bratislava Old Town. It’s a public square where many of the landmarks of the city are located including the Old Town Hall, the City museum, the Guard Booth and Roland Fountain. The Schone Naci and Men at Work sculptures are also close by.
Like most European squares, there’s lots of cafes and restaurants, in and around the square.

We recently visited Bratislava again and spent quite a bit of time at Hlavne Namestie, the main square in the Old Town of Bratislava. This is a nice area of the city and there are several nice attractions which can be found here.
At Hlavne Namestie, there are three museums including the Period Rooms Museum, the Museum of Viticulture and the very good Bratislava City Museum located in the Old Town Hall. At the Old Town Hall you can also climb the tower as part of your visit to the Bratislava City Museum. Here you can catch some lovely panoramic views of the square and the rest of the Old Town.
There is a new attraction at the end of the square on Beila street called Obchod v muzeu, which is a free museum / shop with an impressive collection of old advertisement signs, well-conditioned historic cash registers and other retail equipment. They have a small retail shop selling locally produced food, wines and a few crafts as well. This is a fun stop to make on the square.
Within the Hlavne Namestie area there are two churches with are worth peeking into. These are the historic Jesuits Church and the Franciscan Church, both being amongst the oldest in the city. Across from the Franciscan Church, you will find the Mirbach Palace, which is one of two city locations to host the City of Bratislava Gallery. Presently there is a very good exhibition for the Czech Art Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha.
If you walk past the Old Town Hall, just beyond Nlavne Namestie you will find the Primate's Palace, which is another attraction potentially worth visiting to see a rare collection of historic English tapestries and a lovely inner courtyard.
When visiting Hlavne Namestie, make sure to see the corky statues, structures and fountain found on the square. These include the famous park bench with the Napoleon's Army Solder Statue, the Schone Naci (man with a top hat) the the solider guarding his post and the Maximilian's Fountain. There is a new gold coloured statue called Radiohead added since last year.
Also, make sure to look on the ground from time to time. Throughout the square there are odd tiles and random but interesting pieces fixed into the ground. These are curious and strange but sort of fun to try and find. There seem to be more in front of the two churches and near the Mirbach Palace.
Overall, Hlavne Namestie is one of the main places to visit within the Old Town. There are a fair number of attractions found here and its easy to spend several hours poking into the museums, churches and other attractions, shops and restaurants in this area of the city. In the end, difficult to imagine coming to Bratislava and not spending some time here.

The Bratislava main square (Hlavne Namestie) is a nice place to visit when in Bratislava. It is the most interesting of the three squares we visited and includes some decent attractions worthy checking out as well as some dining and shopping opportunities.
Within the square you can visit the Old Town Hall as well as the Museum of the History of Bratislava and Bratislava City Museum found within this famous building. From the Old Town hall tower, you can also see very good views of the main square. Next door is the Apponyi Palace, which is another restored historical building hosting two more interesting museums, the Period Rooms Museum and the Museum of Viticulture (wine making).
On the square you can see the famous Nepoleon's Army Solder statue perched over the park bench and the Roland Fountain. Additional quirky statues can be found in the area as well, like the colourful bear in the square as well as the Cumil and Schone Naci statues on the street leading to Nviezdoslavovo Namestie.
Along the main square you can also find the Franciscan Church, which is in need of some restoration at present and the Mirbach Palace, which hosts the City Gallery. A couple minutes further walk you can also find the Primates' Palace and St. Micheal's Gate and Tower.
We didn't eat directly on the square but towards the north end of the square, not far past Mirbach Palace we found a very nice restaurant called Prasna Basta that we would happily visit again.
Overall, the main square was the most interesting area visited during our trip and seems to have the highest concentration of attractions you can find in the old town. Most visitors will likely end up on the main square at some point during their visit to Bratislava.

Has anyone stayed in an apartment that looks out on to the main square, love to sit n watch the world go by esp Christmas markets.
Written October 20, 2019
Yes For sometime it is worth to sit and enjoy the view from the apartment, especially when you are tired to go out in the crowded streets.
