Very nice place for day trip

The central Old Town was pretty much empty when we were there. Really interesting town square. Funicular was good too. Chocolates better than Belgium. Everything very cheap

I did not know much about Kaunas before I left for my trip to the Baltics but I must say that Kaunas Old Town was a surprise. Although not as extensive as the old town of Vilnius it has some very attractive features- the Town Hall, Kaunas Castle, St Xavier Church and several 15th century houses in Gothic style that... Spent a really enjoyable day walking around the streets of the old town, lots to see, photograph and generally soak up the atmosphere. Some stunning architecture and statues.

The old town is so great, it breathes the old days air when Kaunas was a capital and it is in the most perfect setting when the sun is going down. Street is wide and full of outlets, shops, gastro places.

Well worth a visit to this remnant of old Kaunas. It is surprising on learning its history that anything exists. Stroll around and enjoy a coffee !

Wandered through the old town in the evening on the way to a restaurant. It is a beautiful place where you can feel the history and spot some very sympathetic renovation. I hear that it is much more buzzy in the summer, but I liked the peace myself. Some little shops, restaurants and bars, with a friendly feeling and no... More

Kaunas isn't a big city, but it has his beauty in summer and winter. In winter it's quiet and peaceful and in summer it's filled with people and there is much to see around the old town.

We spent an afternoon wandering through the old town and thought it was really beautiful. Lots of lovely buildings in a variety of architectural styles, and plenty of cafes along the way to warm up and escape the weather. We hadn't heard much about Kaunas previously, but the old town really merits a visit, and would probably be even lovelier... More
