The funicular was built in the interwar period of Lithuania's Independence. It's not as picturesque as Budapest's, and the ride is nowhere near as impressive as Prague's. But it's good fun and worth the 1 Euro 40 cents it cost me for a return trip.

It lasts 10 seconds but it's lovely because it brings to one of the best viewing points of the town, on the hill. Very cheap.

as Funicular railways go, this is pretty good, you just step on and step off, nothing much to see at the top so best get a return ticket

Unfortunately, the funicular was closed for renovating or for some other obscure purpose when I visited, so I was unable to ride it and had to walk the stairs istead... It was't worth the effort...

Lovely and cosy funicular with vintage atmosphere all year long. The staff is always polite and helpful. In addition, they are bicycle friendly thus one can take a bike up and down the hill. And the must see city panorama up the hill is breath...More
