Great flat beach to walk on, though it was pretty windy with a brisk chill from the Baltic Sea. Paid parking as most streets near are to narrow to allow parking. Nice white sand and plenty of space to spread out and some recreational cement animals and volleyball nets in some areas.

On a day with a perceived temperature of -25 degrees we went from Riga and Jurmala to see the frozen Baltic. Magnificent panorama, like in documentaries. From the train stop (Riga train to Jūrmala with Latvian Railways (PV), departure from Rīga station, journey time approximately 30 minutes, tickets checked on board at least 6 times...) reaching the sea is a journey of approximately 1 km. maybe less, all frozen, being careful not to slip. But it was worth it.

Beautiful area, quiet and clean beach with areas for cafes. Changing pods are available on the beach and the sand is soft and flat. We paid € 5 each for a sun lounger for the day, although in the afternoon people could help themselves to ones that were left or that people had finished with. Well worth the journey from Riga which is about 25 mins by train from central Riga and very cheap. We booked the day before online and it cost us about €6 return for both of us - amazing value. We enjoyed the walk to the beach and the village area on the way had shops, cafes and restaurants. We even got to see a classic car show in on the way back to the station.

Visiting in Feb we had hoped to witness a frozen sea but it has been way too mild for that. Still a nice day trip from Riga and despite it being cold the beach was quite popular for walkers. Very clean, and the cafe/bar 'Summertime' on the beach that was warm and welcoming on such a cold day.

Jurmala beach is nice place and shallow for the kids. Jurmala beach is perfect place with small kids. Only thing what I expected at the beach was beach chairs. There was only few beach chair rentals and they are extremly pricey.

We are going there once every couple of years, it's always nice experience. I would say the prices are good around the area, considering it's the beach, but this year, there were a lot of rude tourists there. Maybe just the season or I was just that lucky, but it really ruined the overall pleasant experience.

Amazing beach 33 km with fine, white sand! Very beautiful atmosphere, the waters are very shallow but one can if you do not want to take a bath, sit in a beach cafe and enjoy the view. The city is beautiful, with wide pedestrian streets, inexperienced cafes and restaurants, a stunning Russian Orthodox church and a forest for endless walks. As for the wooden houses, it's like a fairy tale!

It is extremely surprising that such a beach exists in a place with a cold climate like Riga.
Children were playing sand football on the sand like Brazil
Sand artists left works
The sea is bad but the distance between the sea and the forest is 100 meters
A very different region

From Riga about 30 minutes by train we reach Jürmala. We get off at Majori station, which is the one that best leaves you to walk the main street, full of typical shops , restaurants, and flower stands, depending on the time of year you travel. Once you walk along the main street you reach the Orthodox church of Our Lady of Kazan, which you can take advantage of entering and visiting. And after leaving to the right side, you already head to the beach of Jurmala , where you can see bad Baltic in all its glory, it is a very large beach of fine sand, where you can walk through its wooden steps or if you prefer by the shore. What I liked the least is that there are several local restaurants, which occupy much of the beach sand that are surely used for dinner or parties in summer. I found them too close to the sea, maybe it is the time, maybe in summer the sea is lower.

I got the train from Riga to Majori which took around thirty minutes and was easy and very cheap. The walk to the beach took about ten minutes, it was very cold and almost deserted but the sandy beach looked clean and you can imagine it being busy in the summer.
It was worth the trip just to see a bit of Latvia outside if Riga.

Hi! Where could I book a beach volleyball or beach soccer court on a certain date and time? How does it work?
Looking for a date in mid-June. Specifically interested in the courts at "Majori" part of the beach.

Are pets allowed on this beach ? If not , are there some special beaches in Latvia you can take your pet ? Does latvia have a internet page where I could find pet friendly places ?
Written May 6, 2020
Pets are not allowed on the beach but there are several beautiful hiking and biking paths by the beach.

Are restaurants and shops in Jurmala open on June 24?
Written June 23, 2019
Hello,
Sorry for late answer.
Some restaurants may be open 24/7, especially near the casino.
Shops - I have no information about that, maybe at petrol stations.

If you want a calm day on the Beach what train station is best?
Written October 5, 2018
If you mean high season, then I don't think it matters. All is full.
If you are 3-4 people I would take a taxi. Panda is always cheap (about 14 Euro to the beach), but sometimes you need some patience.
Written October 13, 2018
Sure. But in summer it will be a lot of people

I will be getting the train from Riga to Jurmula. What is the name of the station I get off? And is there any possiblity of renting sunbeds? Is it far from shops & restaurants to the beach?
Written July 24, 2017
The station is called Majore. I recommend you to walk along the pedestrian street to the beach. You can rent sunbeds and buy something cold to drink

How is the water on August? What can be the temperature? From riga to the beach by car is easy? Thank you
Written January 30, 2016
In August I saw local people swimming; I'm from Italy and I'm not so courageous... We got to Jurmala by train, it's very easy...
