Interesting museum contained in a meticulously furnished and decorated Art Nouveau apartment. You get to see not only the 'front of house' stuff like the reception rooms and bedrooms but can view the bathroom, wc (made in England!) the kitchen and the maid's room so it is all brought to life. The basement has an interesting exhibition on the imagined family that might have lived there. It was clever to stand in front of mirrors but to watch live action reflections of each family member checking their appearance before maybe going out or receiving guests. There were also numerous period decorative items and pieces of furniture on display Small Art Nouveau light fittings hanging from the ceiling of one of the rooms was an interesting display. The museum staff were dressed in period costume and you could try on certain articles of clothing too. The entrance and building staircase were also very impressive to see.

If you are in Riga then this is a MUST VISIT. You cannot understand the outside of the buildings without seeing the insides. Take your time to explore each room. Additionally and separately, we visited the top floor to see the artist museum. That also adds to the understanding of the living in these homes at this time of history. You need to climb the spiral staircase and admire the painting all the way to the top. The views from the windows are spectacular. Both museums are a must do in this building and you cannot depart Riga until you come here!

The museum is an apartment in a beautiful Art Nouveau building. All of the rooms in the apartment are filled with Art Nouveau objects. This is a must-see museum in Riga. It is also in the center of many of the best Art Nouveau buildings in Riga so after checking out the musuem (and the apartment staircase), take a walk around the area too.
