We are big fans of railways, so how to pass by such a great place in Riga? Recommended for all who is interested in railways - but why to review everything right here? Visit yourselves, and you will want to come back, and back, and back - just to climb TEP60, sticking out of the wall :)

We were very disappointed with the museum. It wasnt signposted clearly and it wasnt too obvious where it was. the lady at the entrance was helpful but she was the only person we saw during our visit. The initial exhibition was good with lots of information but it lost our enthusisam when there was little to observe. Outside there were... More

We have visited Railway History museum recently with family. Interesting place. Lots of interactive stands describing the history of railway in Latvia. Real trains outside to watch. Something also inside the hall to see the train inside as well. The day we visited museum there was an opportunity to enjoy the "Lilliputian railway" - amazing work by several international professionals... More

This small museum has a large collection of engines and cars to explore outside as well as several interactive exhibits inside. My three year old and I enjoyed walking around all the cars and engines outside. We also enjoyed the indoor exhibits that I thought were very well done. Several exhibits were sensory-based; for example, one portrayed train travel through... More

If you´re fond of railways, this is a must see. Both inside and outside. Most imposing russian locomotives and narrow gauge wagons.

The railway museum has a good selection of diesel engines, many coaches and good wagons and two mainstream large Russian built steam locomotives. Indoors there are some good interactive displays and very good for kids.

Situated just past the new National Library across the river (tram n°4 from downtown Rīga), this museum may not be in a league with its equivalent in York (UK) but it is well worth a visit. They have a small but impressive collection of huge locomotives from Soviet times.

I think it's the only railway museum I have been to and I can think of. It has grown from last year and now it's bigger and more interesting. Worth a visit if you like trains as there is a lot to see.
