While essentially consisting of a collection of memorabilia of Jewish life in Latvia, the accompanying information is put together well, and relates the destruction by the Nazis of a once thriving intellectual, commercial and social community. However, it also reminds one of the irony that...More

The museum itself is very educational and well worth a visit. They have turned a very small space into an excellent exhibition. However upon arrival we were met by a very intimidating staff member who found us (3 Irish girls in our 20s) suspicious. He...More

Dear Aisling F, we apologize for the accident. On Sunday we had a big group of foreign students visiting, who have applied through the special list, and who were coming exactly around the time you attended, c. 14:00. So probably the security mistook you for...More

We found this after going to the KGB building. Both Jews and non-Jews need to visit this museum. It really shows the atrocities that took place with respect to the Latvian Jews, and to learn that it was actually the Latvians who forced the Jews...More

We visited this museum during a special appointment and met with their directors in order to discuss Holocaust history as it pertained to a particular Latvian family during WWII. Even though incredibly busy, both of these lovely people took the time to answer all of...More

Another very good example of what Latvian Jews have had to ordeal throughout their history. You should take time to visit this sobering museum and learn from the mistakes of others.

Hidden away almost...with a great story behind it is a greatly preserved synagog. The decorations and paint looks like real new, and it is worth to read the story behind it as well! Worth seeing!

Hello SMFSanFran We are cruising to Riga in July and would like to arrange a tour to focus on the Jewish history of Riga. You praised a guide named "Leva". Do you have any contact information so we can inquire about a tour with her? Did you prearrange your tour? Any info is appreciated. Thank you Grannynannie

I don't remember mentioning a guide named Leva. I just looked up Jewish sights in Riga and found them myself: the Ghetto, the Choral Synagogue site, the Temple and the Community Center.
