This is an interesting insight into the impact of being a soviet state has had on this independently minded nation. The period Latvia was part of the USSR was brutal and this museum makes that abundantly clear. It is well worth booking the basement tour,...More

Was looking forward to a visit here. On a lovely snowing morning we meandered our way from the old town to find it 'temporarily' closed? Nothing about the sign looks temporary?

We had read of this place before arriving in Riga so wandered up on our first day only to find that it didn’t open until later in the day (Wednesday). It is a little way from the Old Town but within reasonable walking distance. We...More

Important to visit in order to understand present day Latvia. Not for the faint-hearted but we owe it to all those that suffered to remember their fate and promise not to let the dark forces return.

The museum itself is small and interesting, but the best thing to do is to take the tour, which you can book in advance. The tour gets you into the heart of the building where you can actually see the cells and interrogation rooms. We...More

Besides the exhibition, the KGB building is offering guided tours, which I would recommend to do! Even though those aren't for free as the exhibition, its worth it to spend 4€ (student) or 6 € (adult) pp. There are way more insights shared by a...More

I believe this will close soon but I write a review in case it stays open. This is an outstanding museum. The reviewer who write about seeing this in 10 minutes was referring only to the exhibition at the entrance (which I think merits more...More
