We went on a cold, windy November day. The ferry ride was interesting (though chilly) and when we got there most of the restaurants, which looked pretty uninspiring in any case, were closed or closing up for the day. The beach was long and sandy so we had a good walk but frankly there are much better beaches in the... More

We spent a lovely February afternoon exploring Tavira Island. At this time of year the ferry does not depart from the usual spot but instead a bit further out at Cuatro Aguas. It is possible to walk or drive & park. The ferry departs hourly and costs 1.50 per person return. The journey itself takes only 5 minutes! Once on... More

We travelled out by boat from Quatra Agua to find out if the publicity about the island was true. We can confirm it is and is in fact a magic place

Ideal for long walks along a sand beach on an island outside the city of Tavira. Not the impressive bay and ocre eroded rocks of the western Algarve but a different charm and nice change. In winter it really feels like the end of the world. Nice boat transfer frim Quatro Aguas. In summer the boat goes from Tavira city... More

Not a place to visit in January. U get a small toy train to take u to the island beach... 1.50 euros per person each side, fine sand beach!!!

Spending a week in Travira staying in the Artist's House near the fire station. Walked the 2 kilometres to the ferry at Quatro Aguas. You walk alongside the salt plains, which do get to be a boring outlook after a little. Had a rather horrible pizza whilst waiting for the ferry (so be warned, eat before you leave or bring... More

Although we visited out of season when most restaurants and public facilities were closed, this didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful clean beach and finding unusual shells and observing beautiful birds feeding. We easily got a boat over from Quatro Aguas after a stroll down from the centre of Tavira.

Typical busy fast food....great for a quick something after a day on the beach. Untidy and not for an eating 'experience'

A great place to spend a sunny day. Massive expanse of white sand, and can be very secluded if you are prepared to walk a little distance from the boat/railway. If you don't want to walk, you can stay very close to the bars and restaurants, so something for everyone.

Access is fun via the ferry either from near the old market or the jetty opposite the isla. The wooded area is an enjoyable quick picnic area for those too lazy to walk to the ocean beach. The various restaurants make the walk to the ocean beach well-refreshed. The beach itself is endless and beautiful; with a short walk, empty... More
