    Identity of the town
This waterfall is nearly everywhere since it is so high you can see it from just outside the station. And as we went near, this magnificent waterfall started looking huge and huge. A must visit if you are in the Lauterbrunnen valley.

Watch out for the time of day for maximum illumination of the falls!
Depending on the time of the year and the weather, the natural illumination of the falls varies. With the right time of day and the correct angle of the sun, the falls will appear bright and will look more voluminous than it actually is. It seems solar noon is the best time to visit the area, and also during the summer season when the sun is to the north of the village. I went during autumn sunrise and the falls looked dry even though water was still falling over the falls.

    Stunning vertical cascade
An uninterrupted fall of a fair column of water over a cliff so high is rather rare in most waterfalls. What I saw in Lauterbrunnen was such a rare sight just by the city itself. It was just walking distance from the railway station where the walk itself was very enjoyable on a sealed road going through grassland like terrain. “Staubbach Fall” was visible from the town itself and it was a matter of walking towards the falls along the beautiful country road. To reach the falls there was a side walk with built access. Falls had a fair amount of water sometimes getting drifted away by the cool strong wind. This at times atomised the column in to a drizzle or spray that drifted a fair distance from its usual landing area at the base. Very picturesque waterfall which we were able to gaze at for a long time.

    A Wonderful Hanging Waterfall
It was early July'2023; a short walk from Lauterbrunnen train station to experience this amazing #Staubbach waterfall dropping off the mountain cliffs. Next to impossible to comprehend the beauty of fall with a photo-shoot, unless you are there. You can also climb up to the lower end of the fall's cliff. Amazing view through far distance village across the valley and clouds bumping to the icy alps. A must visit place if you are around!

    Beautiful place
A stunning waterfall. A huge amount of water falling verically off a cliff. A short walk (10mins start to finish one way) up a hill, through a short tunnel, up stairs and along the cliffside takes you very close to being behind the waterfall - it gets quite wet so dress appropriately. The place is way too popular with tourists though, particularly those intolerable Instagrammers, which is an issue so best tip to avoid them is to go early morning as they seem to be asleep till around 10am. Free admission.

    View from below is better
Picturesque waterfall and a nice fairly easy walk from Lauterbrunnen. The view from the bottom is better than the view from behind the falls. In our opinion it wasn’t worth the crowds, wet stairs and hike to stand behind the falls. Enjoyable and scenic walk the the valley

PROS
• This is the iconic and incredibly amazing and scenic attraction and symbol of Lauterbrunnen-
• Picture-perfect for photos (see my “helpful" 👍 ones attached here)
• Wonderful location- it’s the central and main (only) attraction of the village
• Do the steep wet treacherous hike to behind the waterfalls for special experience and even more incredible views and photo 📷 opportunities
• Can be viewed and experienced 24/7, and is even supposed to be illuminated at night
• Can be heard in areas of the village

CONS
• Can be crowded both at the base, on the hike to the top and especially at the top behind the waterfall
• Obviously can be slippery on the incline to the viewing platform behind the falls

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… because I've come to visit Lauterbrunnen Village every year, and so one again, I returned- this time with a 29 year old son.

This was not the first time that I hiked to behind the falls- it is challenging and steeply uphill all the way (see my "helpful" 👍 photos 📷).

In a previous year, there were hiking sticks on loan at the base of the falls- to use to negotiate the steep ascent: that has been gone now for a number of years (I'm sure that the infamous Yossi took them home with him).

WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Of course- I've been here at least eight times, and I would certainly return

ADVICE
• If you are visiting the Jungfrau region of the Berner Oberland, then coming to Lauterbrunnen is a necessity, and not an option, so seeing these Staubbach Falls is a natural result of that.
• When you ascend to the behind-the-falls viewing platform, be sure that you have the strength, stamina and sure- footedness. Be careful because it is slippery. Use your hiking poles (beware that there is a rubber mat on some sections and your hiking pole will not be effective there and can even get stuck). Hold on to the banister.

the falls view from the valley is breathtaking, Lauterbrunnen was our favorite town to visit in Switzerland. There is a short but steep hike to get behind the waterfall

This was outside our campsite and nicely lit up at night. Seems popular with Tourist but not sure why tbh. Looks like a busy steep climb to get up close. I rated this ok as it was on our door step, if I had travelled to see this I Would have been disappointed

Lovely town and pretty falls. There is a uphill walk to get to the top of the falls. Well worth the view but quite rocky uneven steps.
