On an 8 week long 5 star Europe trip this was my favourite part.
On an 8 week 5 star trip around Europe we saw some amazing things but my two stand out memories were Lauterbrunen and Gruyere. We stayed in Interlaken and drove the 20min to Lauterbrunen. We walked from a car park in town through a waterfall strewn valley. And when the Swiss say "waterfalls" they mean "WATERFALLS!!". It was around 4km from the car to a waterfall cave we wanted to go inside and the walk was beautiful. There were a lot of people but not so many that you felt crowded. It was a dirty path with grassy hills on either side and cows roaming around with their cow bells on. To either side arose huge mountains with giant waterfalls cascading down. At the end of the 4 km walk we purchased tickets for the waterfall cave. We took the optional elevator up 200 steps worth of climb and then climbed the next 200 steps winding through the mountain. Millions of litres of water pour through so there's a bit of spray, the stairs are wet and the noise is impressive but it was just wonderfull. We then caught a bus back to Lauterbrunen and had cheese fondue. A perfect day.
Thank you for your visit in Lauterbrunnen and the nice review! We are looking forward to welcome you again in the Valley of the 72 waterfalls.

    worth the time and effort
Lauterbrunnen Valley is a sight to behold, and it’s worth the time and effort to walk (not drive!) down to Stechelberg. Once you’ve taken a ton of photos of all the sights to see, you can then take the bus from Stechelberg back to Lauterbrunnen.

    Beautiful Swiss Valley!
One of the most beautiful areas I’ve ever seen! A must-see in Switzerland. There are so many good walking paths and hikes in the area. The town is full of cute shops and restaurants. Seriously, spend some time here!

    So Switzerland
If you're in the area this is a must. The village and waterfall is so Switzerland, and you can experience it in just a few hours. The hike up to the lookout adjacent to the falls is steep, and the view from there is OK, but definitely worth it. One of the best views we had of the falls was from the train heading beyond Lauterbrunnen. Morning light was better for picture taking.

Quaint small town with big personality
Lauterbrunnen is so beautiful with all the waterfalls and the alps that surround the town. May was a perfect time to visit with very little tourists and the tourists busses. You might have to get up early to catch some clear sky’s to view the highest peaks however you will not regret it. Plan on spending several days for all the side trips via gondolas to 9,000 ft beautiful alps and waterfalls. This is a town you will want to just enjoy sitting and taking in all its beauty.

    Not Many Waterfalls in October
My wife and I walked the valley from Stechelburg to Lauterbrutten with a stop at Trummelbach Falls. It was a very nice walk, mostly along a glacier-fed creek. The area is extremely scenic but we only saw 5 or 6 waterfalls, not the 70 that they claim. My guess is that number is based on the number of waterfalls in the spring, not the fall. A nice walk nonetheless.

    A must see
We took the train from Lucerne to Lauderburn and it’s simple and easy to do. Don’t be afraid to do it at all. The picture is of the Falls and it was a slight walk from the train station. Public transportation in Switzerland is amazingly simple and can get you many many places you need to go, and this is one of the most unbelievably beautiful stops that you need to make when you go to Switzerland.

PROS
* Unbelievably stunnIngly beautiful area
* Beautiful views of many many high waterfalls on both sides of the wide valley
* Watch paragliders doing free fall jumping from the cliffs of Murren
* Easy flat walk on paved or gravel surface

CONS
* It can be a commercial walkway- a number of others and farm vehicles
* Not isolated - it passes numerous isolated working farmhouses

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because I love Lauterbrunnen and I try to come here every year. I have said in the past that it would move to Lauterbrunnen when/if I retire.

A few years ago, we rented bicycles for this journey, but this time, we walked and hiked

This year, I brought a fellow hiker- my son, and we descended on the gondola from Murren to Stechelberg and then walked from there to the Lauterbrunnen train station, stopping of course to do the strenuous and slippery challenging hike to behind the Staubbach Falls (please see my soon-to-be-published review and already posted "helpful" 👍 photos of that attraction).

Despite the haze and fog and slight rain, we had a fantastic one and a half hour hike of several kilometers. We enjoyed every minute.

WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Sure- hiking is free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure- I've come to Lauterbrunnen many summers and I would certainly do this hike again.

ADVICE
* An easy walk to hike in either direction
* Public transportation for return is available by bus every half hour
* "On the way," visit the famous Staubbach and Trummelbach Falls

I hope that you find my photos "helpful" 👍

The waterfalls are the most voluminous during the spring and the least during the fall, but luckily for me I was able to witness the Staubbach waterfall being pretty voluminous even during the fall. The waterfall by the Schilthorn gondola was relatively dry though.

Those who watched Indian movies and Fantasy about Switzerland to visit, DON'T do it, it's just entertainment park not nature. Full of greedy hotels, no human expression of culture to see, helicopters, trains, lifts, humpty damply cows, with generators milking them.etc.seeing these mountains suffer my mountains in the beautiful valleys of Gilgit and baltistan cry!!

I had seen the staubbach falls before, but never went up the stairs behind it. Although from afar the falls are not spectacular, seeing the valley from high up behind the cascading falls was an experience, and it’s free! Recommend doing it if in the area! I can’t speak to the other paid falls.
