Description:

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

We were advised to take this tour as it was our first visit. There are two others available which looks at escape tunnels and the women's prison. Our option was around 1.5 hours. Our Guude, Justin, was ver funny, such a dry sense of humour but he bought the tour alive and kept the small part entertained. He was very... More

I did a torchlight tour on Friday evening. Wsa a group of around 20-25 people. Was a very good guide (he had worked in the prison for a few years). Interesting to explore the prison and they had a few special guests waiting for us. Nice, recommended.

Moirai took us on The Doing Time tour today. She was informative and entertaining whilst taking us on a tour of the prison buildings and giving us an idea of what life would have been like in Fremantle Jail. The chapel was a lovely interlude and it was interesting to see the exercise yards and gallows. And entertaining tour, thanks... More

This was one of the highlights of our month in Australia. We felt this visit was well worth the $20 each for the Inside Tour of the prison. Our guide, Jim, was amazingly good and really brought to life what it was like for the inmates of the prison. Jim was a former prison officer at the jail, as well... More

I've visited a few times, by day you see the history and can imagine prison life with clarity. By night with torchlight it's quite eerie, but you see things differently. I must say, I do think the torchlight tours are a bit theatrical and this takes away from the experience and doesn't add to it. On our night tour we... More

We had planned to visit here even if the weather had not been atrocious - however, as it happened it gave us the chance to use a very wet day usefully. Fortunately they did sell inexpensive 'plastic bag like' coverups - warning though - they do rustle a lot in the wind and did make hearing the guide difficult at... More

Been here three times now with different family members, all of whom have loved it. Unfortunately it is quite expensive and quite dependent on the tour guide... Let's just say some are more passionate about their jobs than others

Excellent authentic tour of the Fremantle Prison with an excellent guide (Stephen). The prison was closed in 1992 with the last hanging taking place in 1947.
