We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment.Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year.We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

We had an afternoon cruise booked and took our grandson for his first ever boat trip. The inner harbour was like glass. The staff were excellent, the boat was immaculate. the skipper provided running commentary on the history of the area which was great and as a local Cantabrian I learnt some thin gs I never knew before. Unfortunatley by... More

Great trip out of Akaroa harbour up to the heads on a good boat with plenty of indoor and outdoor space plus tea, coffee etc. Great commentary from the captain along the way. We initially saw a couple of dolphins as we were shown various points of interest along the say. The highlight however was tagging along behind a fishing... More

From boarding the boat at 11:00 to departing at 1pm we loved every minute of the cruise. Very informative and the Puns and jokes were great. Keep up the great work, to fellow travellers this is a must do in akaroa

We boarded the Black Cat catamaran and immediately felt at ease. The crew was fantastic, inviting and professional. The Captain kept us all informed as to what we were seeing and when sea life was spotted he turned the boat so all could see. We saw the Hector dolphin, the smallest in the world, the Blue Penguin, Fur Seals, New... More

Very well run operation with an emphasis on safety. Everyone was provided with wet suits; plus booties, gloves and hoods, as desired. Time was spent to explain about the dolphins and every effort was made to find dolphins that wanted to "play" with the swimmers. The fact that a partial refund is offered if dolphin activity is inadequate is a... More

The 11am cruise on Thursday 27th April was overwhelming. a group of 14 dolphins surrounded the boat swam alongside and leapt into the air. the skipper stopped the vessel and we just had the most amazing show. also saw the wee fur seals and the white flippered penguin. Just fantastic - no swell, flat calm harbour. Kudos to the skipper... More

What a magnificent morning spent out on Akaroa Harbour. With great oration, which was good humoured as well, this cruise was a wonderful opportunity to see some of my favourite sea creatures frollicking in the bay. What a beaut harbour with cliffs majestically formed from a volcano. A must do whilst here.

This really has to be a must do activity for those visiting Akaroa. This was our third time on this cruise and we will continue to go on it when we return to Akaroa again. The boat is large and comfortable and the captain provides both an informative and interesting commentary on the history of Akaroa and about its local... More
