We kayaked here with the Marlborough Adventure Company (see separate review) First up- overall we had a great time. The lodge is perched over a stunning view of the sounds. The staff are well coordinated and it is a great experience. There is plenty to do here for a couple of days. You would be bored a bit after 3.... More

After a 23.5 k walk really looking forward to hot shower but unfortunately the hot water ran out and barely enough water for one shower. In the morning still no hot water. Lots of blow flies in cafe but service was great and food good. Packed lunch was plentiful. Room large with great views. We arrived early at wharf pick... More

I did the day trip here last minute since the kayak trips were booked and I am so glad I did. I had so much fun exploring the property. I didn't end up using the kayaks, but there are lots of walking paths with tons of art, hammocks and animals spread throughout. It's so easy to take a path and... More

Well worth the $90 for the two of us to be boated over and back, and enjoy the walking tracks, see the kakariki being fed, and most fun of all was visiting the pigs.

Exotic or hippy? Funky location for sure. You will find you apartment among bushes, an art gallery and different zoos and farms. A river runs thru it. Free kayak to tour the inlet. Astonishing experience. I assume a great time for kids as they would feel like being Robinson and Tarzan. Very relaxed way of living.

My wife and I visited today as we were walking the Queen Charlotte Track. The cafe was okay but the gardens and various exhibits were very disappointing. Most were quite rundown and simply untidy. The place needs a good spruce up.

Shane the owner of Lochmara Lodge is a friendly self effacing man whose accomplishments belie his relaxed exterior. The lodge itself is nestled in a small cove on the shores of Lochmara Bay. Behind is a network of well conceived, well tended paths, steps and bridges that lead through areas of rain forest tree ferns 20m tall to ultimately join... More

The slice of paradise that is Lochmara has so much to offer, from adventurous swim with stingrays to Hammock-ville, zip line, heaps of wildlife and a great underwater observatory, you are in for a treat! Make sure that you book your departure from there as late as you can or you'll miss out!

Lochmara sits in the stunning Marlborough Sounds and is beautifully designed to take full advantage of its location. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and well appointed. Their best feature however is their balconies with their stunning views. Plenty to do here, swim, kayak, bush walk ( either leisurely or serious walking along the Queen Charlotte track) and there is... More
