Located south of Las Vegas: the best way to access this desert is by Interstate 15. It is about a 2 hour drive south of Las Vegas in California. Your first stop should be at the visitor center. They have very useful maps and information about the sites & wildlife that you might see while visiting this National Preserve. A... More

The Mojave Desert National Preserve is definitely a worthwhile drive. Various things to see during your visit include: cacti, joshua trees, lava beds, sand dune and animal species. The lava bed and lava rocks lying beside the road was very interesting. Make sure and gas up prior to entering the preserve.

Not much to say about this desert thats just what it was a dry and rather boreing desert By this time after 2 weeks on a tour coach going to the grand canyon and all the valleys and national parks between it just seemed so plain Most people on the bus slept through this so I wasn't the only one... Travelled from Bakersfield to Las Vegas. Not too much to say really. It's a desert with a long road through it. A few odd places along the way e.g service stations etc.

Definitely plan your drive to include sunset. If you're able to hit Baker on queue, that's where I think the most beautiful mountain views can be had in all directions. The entire experience of changing colors lasts about an hour. (Fill your gas tank before you drive across the desert or you'll experience true highway robbery.)

On our way down to Joshua Tree we decided to make a pit stop here at Mojave. We did a quick drive through and stopped for pictures but there are campgrounds and trails here. You could spend an entire day here and then some.

We passed through here during our recent road trip, the weather was lovely and the photo opportunities were amazing. I would recommend this place is well worth a visit.

On our way by car from Vegas to Mariposa/Yosemite, we crossed the desolated but fantastic Mojave desert all the way to the town of Mojave. After that point the road overtake a pass, spotted by incredible number of power wind mills and you can notice the landscape quickly turning from sandy brown to greenish as the desert ends here... Awesome views of the area on our drive to Vegas. We stopped and took pictures it was so beautiful. I recommend staying full on gas, as with any dessert there are limited stops.
