We took the train from Sacramento to Seattle (or so we thought) in Jan 2017. The sights are magnificent on the way and the train is comfortable and even has a very cool car that is almost completely out of glass so you can see the surroundings and the stars. But. We left 6 hours late from Sacramento. Okay, nothing... More

First off, I have to admit that my mostly disappointing first experience on Amtrak was based on my having paid business class seat price (Emeryville to Seattle) for far less than coach experience, which I've read is quite pleasant. My seat was in a coach car with 'Business Class' taped to the doors. It was also between economy cars and... More

Loved our trip to Oregon on the Coast Starlight We went first class with a sleeper car. The service was fantastic. If you want a relaxing trip, the train is the way to go. Beautiful scenery and afternoon cocktails in the bar car. We played cards, read books and watched a movie in the "theater car" great time was had... More

We took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Oakland in a Superliner bedroom and meals were included. We enjoyed meeting fellow travelers in the Parlor car but liked having the ability to spend time in our room enjoying the scenery. Many of the people we met travel by rail much of the time and were able to provide us with... More

Boarded in Emeryville going to Seattle. We were at the end of a month long vacation and thought a train would be a nice, relaxing way to work out way home. We bought our ticket via Amtrak website and it included a bus ticket from San Francisco to Emeryville and the train costs to Seattle. Our bus was scheduled for... More

We began this journey in LA and ended in Seattle. Decided to take the train for something different rather than fly. For the most part, this trip was great, beautiful coastal scenery (going north, the ocean views kicked in approx 3-4 hrs in) & waking up to gorgeous mountain views on day 2. The service was pretty much faultless, the... More

My husband and I decided to try Amtrak to SLO instead of driving. We went business class going to SLO and we had a roomette on the way back. Business class was great, with large seats and a footrest that goes all the way up so you can really relax. The business class car is in between the dining car... More

A neighbor just asked for a recommendation for how best to travel to San Francisco from LA. I said that I'd take Amtrak's Coast Starlight train. A reserved Coach seat is $64. Business Class upgrade for an additional $13 will get you more room, WiFi and other amenities. Starting from historic LA Union Station at 10:10am daily, the gorgeous ride... More

My travel started from Los Angeles and I got off at Oakland, CA. Although the journey is a bit longer than the usual flight, but one of the most scenic journey I would say! There are very rare instances when you have clear blue ocean on one side and green lush mountains on the other. It almost felt that the... More
