Nice for a one time trip. Would not go again. 36 hours long. Very scenic at beginning and end of journey, but menu is very limited and bland.

I would never take a train across the country, as many have complained about in these reviews; it is simply too long and tiring. But in November 2017, we decided to take the California Zephyr from Sacramento to Reno and back. We wanted to cross...More

We booked the California Zephyr from Chicago to Truckee as they were running a special for the fringe season (November). We decided to go with a Superliner Roomette as spending two nights in coach would have been rough. We were so happy with that decision....More

I've been on a number of Amtrak's long-haul trains (Southwest Chief, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder), but the Zephyr is, hands down, the most impressive route. From Denver to San Francisco, my niece and I could barely tear ourselves away from the windows as one vista...More

I love Amtrak and travel on its trains often but for me the sleeper for two is not worth the high cost. The room is tiny and very hard to move around in when you wish to dress or undress and the private bathroom, my...More

We took the trip from Denver to Glenwood Springs and it took about six hours. The Coach class seats were comfortable, the dining car was fine (we had breakfast) and the food was ok. The scenery absolutely amazing.....I enjoyed the whole experience. One of our...More

I took this route in July 2017 and there were some snow capped mountains then. I would say it would just depend how much snow you want to see.
